I had looked on there sites and noticed some of the differences...but being new to this I dont know what that really means. Like I saw the ccd vs the coms sensors....but what that means in real world I dont know lol. I am just getting into it and plan to learn it all...but want to start with a good camera and getting advice from people that have hands on experence.

Thanks!

the D90 is very new, so i couldn't tell you to be certain exactly how good it is, in my personal opinion putting video functions into a DSLR is simply a marketing sceme and may in tern wind up hindering the camera's overall preformance and reliability. This being said i wouldn't personally reccomend you go with it as a starter cam, the D80 and D200 have been tested and proven great cameras.

the CCD and CMOS sensors are the chips in the camera's that pick up the image, and are the reason everything works. the aperture, shutter settings and ISO settings control the basic use of the sensor and how much light needs to be on it to create the best possible image. Both CCD and CMOS sensors have there own advanteges, but in the overall current market of nikon/canon DSLR's CMOS has taken the crown in what is being used for the current cams.

They have the D80 at BB too...but it has the ccd and no face detection. I really like that on my cannons...it picks up on faces and makes it focused on them. I am sure any of them will take great pictures....ill just have to do some more reading and flip a quarter lol.

I think I would still get the D90 look at this side by side of differences.

One thing it says is it has landscape for a image preset...that might be like a widescreen type pic right. That would be cool for the plasma.....

d90 all the way the d80 lacks a lot of the upgrade ability that the d90 has as far as lense changes go read into it

I saw a blurb about the lense thing on that link I just posted. Its looking like the D90 FTW. I like the cannon EOS50 but its more $ for no real difference except the MP....and 12 is enough im sure.

I looked online for best buy coupons and I scored. I got a 10% off and a tripple points. So I have like 360 in BB dollars so that will drop it to 940...then I got the 10% off so down to 846...then tripple points plus im a silver member so I will get another 60 or so in best buy bucks!

most nikon lenses being manufatured currently are Auto focus lenses, AF and AF-S lenses. there's a switch at the bottom of the cam that will turn from manuel to auto focus. some lenses are Very fast with AF and some are Very slow though.

FYI if you get deeper into photography, you'll find out that megapixels are not everything. If your going to print out large pics they mean a bit more, one of the better cams nikon produced with the D2H and D2Hs, they had 4 MP's.

Yeah its mostly marketing im sure. I am toying with the idea of larger photos. We always take our daughter to get pics taken andwell...those people sometimes charge a insane amount of money. Granted they are pros and have a lot of equipment and all...but maybe one day daddy do it lol.

I also like the large MP for cropping stuff....sometimes when my turtles (or whatever) has a odd looking spot on its foot or something and I want to ask the great folks on MFK what it is...having large MP would allow me to have a more clear pic of a spot blown up...right.

I also forgot I have a gift card for BB for at least 25 bucks (forgot whats on it) so a little less still on the camera. I guess im going to wait till the end of oct to make sure no other sales or coupons pop up. The things I have now dont start to expire till oct 31st....and looking yesterday on the net there were some other ones I found that are no good any more but were like a 50 dollar gift card with 500+ purchase. So I am resisting and I will wait 2 more weeks...I guess...I hate to wait  lol

Ok got a few more questions...if you had to pick one...flash or another lense what would you add to the D90 from Best Buy.

I am assuming the lense that comes with the D90 from BB (18-105mm) will be ok with taking some up close macro like pics. So if lense, I was looking at this one since it seems to pick up where the lense that comes with the D90 drops off.

If you think flash I was looking at the SB-800 but on nikons site they have a new SB-900...should I skip best buy since they dont have it and go for the 900?

Thinking this case for it all...
