Hey guys, so two weeks ago I added two bigger and longer cuttings in the tank..
Both have started sprouting little roots but almost half the leaves have turned yellow and dropped off..
What is happening?
Either roots aren't fully submerged or its just acclimating and shedding off some weight (totally normal) try giving it extra light. Like a cheap 13 Watt 5000-6500K CFL bulb with a utility dome light fixture from Walmart or your hardware store for 7-10$ total. The dome fixtures are clamp on too and if you want to get fancy hook it you to a timer, perhaps your aquarium light timer!

Whenever I see 40-50% black, dried or yellow leaves I pull them off to stimulate energy for the rest of the plant!

Obviously make sure your tank is cycled and producing enough waste to feed the plants! Cuttings should need little.

Thanks for the advice.. The vines/roots are definitely submerged in the water.. I even took the hassle to keep each leaf out of the water.. and yes, the tank is cycled..
Here's another problem regarding one of the vines.. Apparently, one end of the vine is splitting off into really thin size.. Few days ago it was still looking normal.. Why is it splitting like that?
I've attached some pics..

Btw, for those wondering if pothos leaves are harmful to fish, the 3rd and 5th pics show that pothos leaves are safe for consumption.. The ghost shrimps are having a feast on a leaf that has submerged in the water..

the splitting could be the new leaves growing or if your talking about in the tank its roots. That's good its doing something as long as its not turning yellow or black!

I think ive heard enough about pothos to get the gist of it, but i dont know if there are certain plants that work for this.
I would really like to keep these plants alive and was wondering if they would work. I dont have any idea what they are, they were sent as a gift

Nitrate reduction will occur around the 3 week mark if acclimation happens efficiently! If the plant is stressed and takes awhile to see new growth then 4-5 weeks may be more realistic.

When you see it start growing good you know! I've had plants that have made the transition in a couple weeks and some that never made the swap to all water, just seemed to sit there and wilt away. Seems about every 1 in 5 doesn't take well to water for w/e reason. I've found taking off the brown/yellow decaying leaves helps.

I don't see any potho aka devils ivy in that picture. I may see a peace lily which can be grown the same, just slower and little nitrate reduction!

Try your hardware store, its always in season and a very hearty plant! They even have small pots at my grocery store for 5.99$. Call around 1st. Trust me when your water changes are cut in half you will be happy person!

Those look like a peace Lilly. Prayer plant and a definbachnia. Just separate and repot them. Chances are you know someone with pothos who would be glad to trim there plant and give you a bunch!

I agree with F1, the plant on the top left looks like Dieffenbachia , top right is peace lily and the non flowering plant on the bottom looks like a prayer plant. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Pls be careful with the Dieffenbachia around children and pets, it is highly toxic if ingested. The name literally means 'dumb cane'. Each of those plants do best with indirect light. If you see browning on the leaves, they're getting too much light.
