Cichlid Aquascapes!

Thanks for the compliment :)

Yes, they are real and they're called turkey oak leaves. They do look good and it provides some health benefits to the fish.

I just drop them in the tank and they eventually drop to the bottom. Replacing them is needed because it starts to disintegrate into the water and a lot of leaf litter is left behind. You can leave it in if you like that look or take it out before it starts getting torn apart.

I usually drop in new leaves every 3-4 weeks.

thats great, where do you get them from? are they native or purchased or what??

nice set up of a 75,Ive done a similar 75 but I have less wood ,more river rock:)
Sweet man, do you have a picture of it? Everyone wants to see it so please share.

JK47, 3dees and Mr. Rain Cloud you have admirable tanks there ;)
Thank you!

I bought them off ebay. They're currently not available from the seller I purchased from so I just inquired from them on its availability.

I also bought alder cones from them, you might be interested if you like tannins in your tank.
An informational video from them:

Ah nice, sure beats buying backwater extract from the LFS.

Hahaha, definitely. I didn't even know the blackwater extracts existed! All natural is the way to go.

Thanks man, you better live up to all these great examples! :D

Well here's a quick reply regarding the oak leaves:

"Thanks for your enquiry. There are very few turkey oak trees in the UK so I have to wait until the one in my garden drops its leaves, then dry them flat which takes a while. I'd imagine that there won't be any more available until October / November although I am getting some more almond leaves very soon which I will list when they come in.
Regards,
Richard

I shop at TyneValleyAquatics on occassion. Its funny that you get yours from there!

A neighbour of mine has a turkey oak in his garden so I'm sure if I do some leaf collection for him I can acquire my own leaves :D

*************

Here is my tank, way overdue a rescape. I have some plans, but i'm off on holiday this week so no chance of a rescape anytime soon :(.
