Thanks! yep this is one crazy tank.
Nice Collection! Let me have them. Your Jag looks like a Cuban...
The jag is still a juvenile. Used to have a cuban. Darn pbass ate it and both died.
Nice collection. How big is the tank? It looks like its a bit crowded in there.
Tank is 375g. Needs to be overcrowded or else you will see beaten up fish, scaled out, skin out, torned fins and busted lips. Stressed out scared cichlid.

Looks amazing but I'm not sure that Mayan you have is a Mayan. It has a really tiny tail spot that only goes halfway to the tailbase, thats the main give away of the true festae.
It could be half mayan half festae, or a dull non dominant male festae I'm not sure. but if it was a mayan it would have a large round spot that covers the whole height of the tailbase.

as that is the most accurate way of distinguishing the Mayan from the Festae.

Well this Mayan is a WC and I'm 100% sure it's not a hybrid. I don't really goes for the tailspot to tell mayan vs festae. I actually go for the first stripes close to the head. Festae stripes will have that first and second connected going down making a "Y" shape stripe. In mayan the stripes just go down vertically. I've seen many mayans in the past all WC and different sizes and tailspots varies.

Oh don't get me wrong the fish DOES look mayan. I just find it very interesting how its the only example i've seen with the small tail spot. And i've seen some festae without the joining front bars too, it can be confusing.

perhaps its the locality of the fish? I've heard they have even been found in the sea
