Considering a Tropical Pond

Malawi haps are open water fish mostly. Although I made a couple of cave structures using 1 foot lengths of 6" black drainage pipe cable tied toghter and then weighted with a brick. I could make some more of those really cheap.

I guess the big question is wil my channel cat eat them, I don't want to get rid of him. He has never eaten the feeder comets I put in there so I don't think so. He's lazy and gets his fill on pellets and occasional shrimp.

Don't go haps ! IMO a big part of a pond is the interaction with the fish. Not going to achieve that with Haps :(

That is a good point I agree on, at least from outside the pond. I kind of had the vision that snorkeling in my pond with hundreds of colored up haps would be like diving on a reef. I don't know what I'll do, I need two or three or four ponds lol.

I agree, that would be wicked, but other than that it would be extremely boring IMO.

Been thinking about and I think your right, it would only be a matter of time before I got bored with haps in the pond. So I'm going to stick with my original plan.

I cleaned out one stock tank and turned it into a growout tank. Man it was disgusting to clean out, the bottom of it was nasty stinky anaerobic muck...

I made the cover out of 2x4" mesh fence panel and attached some plastic mesh from Home Depot to it with little cable ties. This should keep this fish in and the critters out.

I'm about halfway done cleaning out the other bog filter. This is not fun!

I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with this one. I still like the idea of growing plants/veggies in it but my new rule is if you can't clean it easily don't do it.

not sure if I have mentioned it, get a wels catfish, can handle the cold and the warm.
