what should i put in my 10 gallon
Not much can go into a 10 gallon. Right now I have some glass shrimp and a female guppy in two connected tens. Her fry are in the other ten and a filter keeps them from crossing the bridge. You can also raise daphnia, blackworms, snails, scuds and green water in a ten with really good results. I'm doing scuds and daphnia in a 5gal and it's so cool to have my own live food for almost free.

I've got to say, I'm really happy about this thread. Kudos to you for wanting the best for your fish and taking the time to understand the reasons behind stocking.

With 11 convicts and 3 severum, you are going to have a lot of pairs. In a 55 you have a really high possibility of all out war.

I have seen a single convict pair trash all their tank mates in a 75, and I mean much larger tank mates like JDs, GTs, Os, and even more aggressive larger fish. Severums can get pretty aggressive also when breeding.

I think the odds are stacked against you , even if you only get a couple pairs it will be tough. Really though with 14 fish in a tank the likely hood of you only getting 2 pairs is pretty unrealistic. I would guess you would end up with 3-5 pairs unless you are very careful in selecting genders.

yeah.. this has mess wrote all over it...

Convicts ..... live to breed. .. No, not like ~ LIVE to breed

11 Vics in that 55 is gonna be way to much. Sure they'll start at 3" ... but fish grow to their environment and will end up being severally stunted... not to mention the Sevs you wanna have as well...

THEN theres all that fry !!! Sure its free food, but still... you really looking for a lot of trouble....

Won't lie.. I am sure it'll look totally amazing, at first.. But they will pair.. an then breed...

best of luck

Fish do not grow to their environment. They grow to their water quality.

Get rid of all the convicts too. Ugly fish that will just bully your other fish and overrun the tank as they breed.

:banhim:

My female is full of color... male not so much. :grinno:

is this ok 11 Convict Cichlid and 3 Severum

no, its not.

a pair of severums and a convict would work. A pair of convicts (or 2) and a severum would work. Thats about it. Sure, you can put them all in there at first, but rest assured, within a year, you will more than likely be left with a few pairs of convicts at best. Ive had a convict pair take over half of my 265 when breeding, cramming 4-5 inch trimac, dovii, rtm and more into the other half, causing major space conflicts. Ive also had a pair of convicts take over a 125 and try to kill a 10 inch red devil 24/7. A breeding pair of convicts will stop at nothing to defend their fry. They will die or the other fish will if theres not enough room for them to get far enough apart from one another...and a 55 doesnt provide that space.

Why are you looking to put 14 fish in a 55? If thats what you want youd be better served to get a severum pair and some colorful tetras and maybe a small growing leopard pleco, some otto cats or a rafeal or pictus.

14 fish that grow over 3 inches in a 55 is way too much for anyone, much less a beginning enthusiast.

good luck.
