I'm running carbon pellets .. so not sure if that's quickened the process but I'm down to barely readable now for nitrate .. I' checked phosphate and it's down too .. but not to zero which is good as didn't want it to crash .. it's really kicked my biopellet filter into action and generally my water is much clearer .. in 3 days it's made a big change
Sounds cool. Can you post pics describing how you set it up. Are you using strictly bio pellets ?

How much lower are your nitrate levels since you started using de*nitrate? I believe it lowered the nitrate by ~20 ppm after a week for J jaws7777 in his 300 gallon with 125 sump?

Please post your tank size (and sump size if used) and the weekly nitrate reduction. It would help to have the flowrate through the de*nitrate but I believe most are running around 40 gpH.

I'm trying to figure out how much of the nitrate reduction could result from denitrifying bacteria converting nitrate into nitrogen gas and how much is resuling from adsorbtion of de*nitrate or modified pumice.

Mine has been staying at 20ppm. I run about 40ppm and up abit.

Mine is a 125g with no sump. Directly into the tank. Pump is set at 40gph.

If the pump is 40gph you're likely only getting 20-30gph out of it.

I think ur right. Never measured it but I kind of figured if there is a drop then it should still keep me in that flow range.

Im not to sure it was because of the denitrate and not the reduced feedings

I forgot to ask about nitrate accumulation ... how much nitrate would rise after a week without a water change (before the de*nitrate).

But I think 20 ppm nitrate reduction in a 125 gl could be the result of denitrifying bacteria.

The denitrification would take place within the miroporous scructure of the pumice where the flowrates, in theory, should be rougly the same as a regular coil denitrater running at ~0.5 gpH to allow for anoxic conditions.

At 0.5 gpH, ~50% of a 125 gallon tank's nitrate is removed in a week ... effectively a 50% weekly water change ... (9% day 1, 17.5% day 2, ... 49% day 7).

*This is without additional nitrate accumulating throughout the week and it doesn't really factor in the media capacity of the denitrator.

For me its red maybe 40ppm between a 1 week wc less if i do multiple.

Right now i have it set at 21gph. Figure it should cycle the tank over a 20 hr period. Sent seachem an email regarding flow rates
