diy overflow

If your check valves aren't working correctly, it will let some air back in the top U and it won't flow like it did before until you suck the air back out.. .That's my guess.

Dunno what the problem is maybe i never stuck the check valve and outta elbow together, thats where air was coming from or the pvc at 50mm is way too big and air cant get pushed out without help to get best siphon speed after a blackout. :nilly:

I overcame the problem anyways by sticking a small powerhead with the air tube fitting in the sump. The airtube from powerhead connects to the overflow check valve. so now my overflow bend will never have air in it again, constant 24/7 air suck :D Siphoning at full speed baby :D

Also since my sump is just a 3ft tank with no dividers, the powerhead doubles up to push water around the sump keeping the bacteria on bioballs alive and circulating :D

Happy :)

The design is good. It is getting air in it somewhere (air leak). How long has it run continuously? And will it restart after an instantanious shut down?

ok this is what we did. We moved the tee up about 10" and now its working after a powerdown. The only problem now is it seams a little weak. im running a Giant lil pump 800GPH extenal pump and we had to restrict the pump drastically for it to run properly.

got a diy overflow done. wonder if will work? pls give more pointers. with a check valve installed at the 2nd bend will it work better? btw its 25mm pipes and installing for a 200l tank w/3000lph flowrate. pls advice. thank u!

A check valve will make it easier to get the air from the top of the loop out.

Also you would want to try make "T" as close to the loop as possible.

thanks mate. the Tjoint closer to loop will cause greater siphon power is it? :)

Yeah I think thats it and it will prime better, im not sure though I just read that it's better to have it as close to the loop as possible.

thanks again. will do the adjustments. :)

b.k. are your 2 bends same height? i think the 2nd one has to be longer. that's how i made mine, but not sure if that will work.
