b.k. are your 2 bends same height? i think the 2nd one has to be longer. that's how i made mine, but not sure if that will work.
hi, u mean the inlet of the overflow? yes its same height but i will be cutting it off to the desired height soon :)

The distance in red determines the strength of the syphon (assuming the top of the loop is more or less on top of the tank)

One big tip to prevent the vent pipe from gurgling is to make the plumbing after the yellow line a lot larger, at least double the diameter, no useable syphon occurs (or is desireable) past this point. You want the water to run down this section with a decent air gap in the pipe, if it syphons down this part it will suck air down the vent pipe causing horrible gurgling.

thanks so much mate!

i've did a little editing. what if inlet was cut till the red line. will the natural siphon still take place if water if power was cut off n on again?

if vent was placed below water level or adding a ball valve will the gurgling sound still occur?

pls advice :)

If you cut at the red line it will drain the tank down to that level, suck air, and loose syphon.

As it stands it will work, I was just suggesting a modification that I found to reduce the noise they can make, you don't have to use rigid pipe after the T, I use larger diameter flexable waste water tubing on mine, the internal ridges slow down the flow and help damp the noise of the flowing water.

I was at Lowes on saturday and decided to upgrade the diy overflow, my overflow is currently made out of the 1" inch pvc pipe. I found an adapter (1" - 2") and a 2" coupler which will allow me to use a 2" pipe cut approx 12 inches long, at the end of the 2 inch pipe I cut several notches to prevent food going into the intake. I cut off the inlet pipe and installed a the larger inlet pipe. I did notice that the flow has greatly increased and it skims the surface very effectively so the surface is clear of any surface scum. I hope this information helps. Once I figure how to post picture I'll take a few.

This is my plan for removing bubbles from the siphon. Just put an airline tubing from the top of the overflow, to a part where there is running water. The running water will naturally suck out all the air bubbles.

Anyone used a durso or other intake quieting methods? I'll have a ball valve at the end to control the flow, but just wondering if anyone else has employed successful methods.

You cant just have airline tube because it needs to be air tight....

The airline idea is good thinking but it is like plugging a power strip into itself for free energy. It ain't gonna work. You can use a power head's venturi to do the job though.

Riddle me this CHOMPMAN... after the air is out of the unit could the tubing maintain it? (cut the bottom of the tube at an angle for better suction).

Hhmmm. (We may just have to give spoot a gold star...)
