diy overflow

Sorry if you covered this... I looked and didn't see anything about using larger pipe IE: 2 inch is that possible as I have access to 2 inch clear acrylic. Would that work on a 2 135 with a 33 sump ?
Thanks in advance for your reply :D

hey, so divised a more hidden plan for an overflow using the same ideas as the pipe overflow just a little more concealed, it uses 2 small one of these --> http://image.bizrate.com/resize?sq=160&uid=355710511&mid=121361 or something a bit smaller and thinner, some pvc pipes and a few little pieces of acrylic. using 1" pipe to push 1200 gph total, one will pull water from surface the other from deeper in the aqaurium, will it drain 1200gph using 2 1" pipes? (there are also 2 pipes going to sump... pipes are the blue things), one box will hang in aqaurium and one outside

black dots are holes, i could prolly just make the boxes out of acrylic

i will post pics soon if it works

If you're going to do all that, you should just drill your tank and stick a box overflow in it. The point of a PVC overflow is cheap and simple and not as invasive as a box overflow.

If you make some pvc strainers, like how I did, then that won't ever happen.

I copied the basic design from this thread, then kicked it up a few notches.
Pic's of my 1.5" duel inlet overflow-

Hey Keith, I really like your design. I appologize for not getting your email sooner; I have been out of the loop for a while. I cleared it out thinking it was a copy of a PM, and then came here to find it wasn't:nilly:. Your design was easy to find though.
You do good work.

With this design tho doesn't a lot of air get sucked into the overflow? I thought the purpose of having the elbow was to reduce that?

im having a slight problem,

the overflow intake, if it is flat with the surface does in introduce to much air?

am i better off using an elbow to do it?

and i have the check valve but does it have to be attached to a power head what is the best way to do it???
