this overflow is great, but with my 6ft tank i need 2 of them, however i find that this isn't so great in collecting gunk thats near the bottom of the tank.

its seems cool but would it stop siphoning when the power goes out since its sucking water from the bottom?
more questions could someone tell me whats the circled thing is and its use?

Also to answer your question its a check valve they use it to get the remaining air out of the loop.

OMG I finally finished reading through this entire thread and I finally understand how the water flows over that first loop! I'm going to get the supplies tomorrow and begin building shortly after. Thanks a whole lot everyone for your posts, especially chomper w/ your insane amount of responses. If everything goes well I'll have two 1" overflows set up for my 110 gallon.
