diy overflow

a 40 gph power head won't have enough power to pump the water up to the tank. If it does make it, it will barely be a trickle.

You can sell the power head and use that money toward a pump that will do the job.

i think that looks like it is going to work awesome are there any plans

hi, i have been going through this whole thread and i picked up a lot of great info on your diy overflow, but i don't seem to have seen how much a 1.25 or 1.5 inch pvc will flow. i know that a 1" will give you about 600 gph, but how much do the other sizes flow. thanks for the help.

It is safer to use 2pcs of 1 inch pipe than making a larger diameter,as ive observed that larger pipes lose its prime, unless you have a strong pump,

thanks for the info, i think that i'll do that. just gotta get my lazy ass to home depot for the pvc.

From the intake pipe, add a 90 and then a tee. One end of the tee should point up and the other should point down. Add a pipe to the bottom side to reach to the bottom of the tank.

I'll go take a pic, brb.

Will the surface (water line) inside the tee circulate well enough that it won't develop that oily film? It's not a big issue, just wanted to know.

The above modification can be added to any DIY overflow by adding that unnessecary 90 in the original DIY picture and then plugging the mod into it.

Any chance you could put a diagram together for it, I am still kinda confused and I want to give it a shot.

A diagram is asking a bit much considering my computer. It is just a tee with a pipe in the bottom. If your overflow is exactly like the one at the beginning of the thread (with the 90 on the intake tube) then you just plug it into it. If you are missing the 90, then you will need to add one.
