diy overflow

which still only puts the thread back a couple of months.
its ok. you tried to be funny, and it backfired to make you look dumb. it happens. no hard feelings ;) perhaps next time you will hold your tongue and save face. otherwise, im sure we eill meet again.

the fact of the matter is, even if this thread was 10 years old, the information in this thread is universal and not outdated. this thread addresses issues and questions asked every day on this forum, and keeping it bumped near the top of the forum can help answer those questions, rather than everyone posing new threads or searching through pages of search returns.

next time do yourself a favor, and leave it out. :)

You know, you must enjoy being an unhappy little toadstool. Does it make you feel good to put people down? You attacked me when I made a joke about someone ressurecting the thread and tried to call your attention to the fact that you were asking someone a question about a post 3 months old. I'm pretty sure it is you that is showing your personallity right now. I don't appreciate it.

I'd honestly like an apology for the first and now second attack. There is a sticky about the overflow. Use it.

you tried to take a stab at me, and when i respond to the "attack" you started with something stronger, you "don't appreciate it"
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

give me a break

dont try to back peddle on your statement. you tried to make a wise comment (thinking i wasnt aware this was an old thread) and got shut down for it. so sad.
if you cant take it, dont dish it out
next time, keep your wise comments to yourself, and you wont get clowned.
"if you dont have something nice to say, dont say anything at all"
:footinmou

now if were done here, lets get back to the topic at hand. if you feel like you have anything else you need to say to me, feel free to send me a private message

Yes, I do believe I am owed an apology. You assume that I was attacking you. If you read the post I was pointing out to you that it was a resurrected thread, not that you had resurrected, as such my comment about holy resurrection would have been directed at the individual who performed said resurrection. You, in my opinion were merely someone that I was trying to inform that was replying to a 3 month old question. However, you seem to have a mad desire to continue to be rude and attack me. Reading comprehension is your friend. And yes, I am due the apology. This is not a flame war, nor is it the place for it. And no, I will not take something that is quite as ridiculous as this to pm's for your personal enjoyment. You made the mistake and assumed it was an attack on you.

Simple question: what is the quietest DIY overflow design out there? My wife is not a fan of tank noise. I am constructing a 260 gal plywood tank and fear she may force me to invest in a mega expensive enclosed container filter vs build an economical DIY sump with an overflow. Any suggestions? Thanks!

quietest? probably drilling the tank and adding a bulkhead.

if youre not able to drill the tank, a "bottom siphon overflow, or a "standard" pvc overflow with a durso standpipe would be pretty quiet.

a properly built "standard" pvc overflow can be pretty quiet. mine is near silent. it used to make some gurgling through the last vertical pipe, but after adding some rolled foam to muffle the sound, its relatively quiet.

Drilled over flows can be loud also, if you dont mod them like a Durso. The reason the are loud is air getting sucked in, and anytime you have a drilled overflow there is a full siphon unit the air gets sucked in. You will continue to hear a sound like someone sucking the last bit of soda out of a straw. The only exception is in the highly risky setup where the pump is strong enough to pump enough water that even at full siphon the overflow can't lower the tank water level far enough to suck in air. In this situation even a small reduction in flow can be bad news.

I have horizontal drilled overflows that where very loud until I turned them into basically a Durso.
