Well to be honest I just didn't want a basic square/rectangle. I did give up about 75 gallons of capacity in doing it this way but 400g is plenty for now. It would have been much simpler to build a rectangle for sure. I just wanted to make it a little different.

I have given up on a cover for now. It's not losing much water and holds temperature pretty well. I may add one come winter depending how it does or if I still have it running.

I'm not really happy with it as is. It annoys me that I can't photograph the fish well nor can I see them much anymore. Just the top of them as they go by...

I thought about a viewing window but I'm not sure I want to mess with that or not. Knowing my luck I would screw something up and it would leak. Plus I'd have to sit on the ground to see them and it would be limited to that one window.

I am considering just using it as a stand/giant sump and putting a tank on top of it. I'd keep some fish in the bottom but have say a 180g 6'x2' tank on top with some of the fish so I can actually see them.

I think that is why KOI are so popular as most fish to view from top sucks but the fish are happy.

This was very informative as far as how you built it . Easy to follow steps and it came out great and great looking Oscar.

Have you considered dwarf or regular papyrus to help you filter they grow great and suck up junk .
Thanks. :)

As of now the filter is pretty full of plants and they seem to be growing quick. I just grabbed a few pond plants marked low light but don't know the names. I may have one of those already for all I know.

Oh for sure. I have recently found I can get good photos when I feed them. Surface feeding shots are awesome, but none have came out quite right yet. The Pike hits the surface and is back down in like .2 seconds.

None of these are that good but it gives an idea of the shots I am going for...

And good news, it finally seems to be out of it's mini cycle. Ammonia finally read 0 last night... Didn't check the other params, was just glad to finally see a 0. There was trace amounts lingering for a while.

Thats a great looking albino oscar with the room you have now a breeding pair would be nice.

I just happen to like them lol thats why I mention a breeding pair and you have more than enough room to spare.

I have one but it's a Juvi as you see. Growing out first, would be a spendy snack at it's current size...

got any pics of the niger cat?
No recent ones really, he just hides under driftwood. Much bigger now though, I'll try to get one next time I throw in Massivore.
