First off...don't ever apologize for spending time with family...I believe a wise man once told me the same thing ;).

Second, this part of your thread should really be made into another sticky...like always your step by step instructions make us all feel empowered to follow your lead.

Nice work!! I will definitely come back to this once my setups are complete. It isn't as "scary" as I thought it'd be.

Thanks Justin :headbang2

Awesome set up.... How do you keep the water up to temperature in your garage?

Thanks Tomeiko. I'll do a write up on it IF everything works the way I plan it. Only time and the new year will tell.

Thanks Eric. I keep all of the tanks really well sealed and heaters placed in front of high flow areas to use less energy. I also seal up all holes in the tank to keep heat trapped in.

This thread is not all wins, I promised I would update mistakes too.. I am having some pretty big issues with the 300 gallon. The fail list so far:
  1. Great Stuff pond foam does not stick to acrylic very well in large applications. (excellent on glass though) The bottom of the BG has seperated about an inch from the bottom panel. IMO if the BG was not so large or I would have used more behind it, I would not have this issue. Securing it from the bottom only was a mistake.
  2. The GE1 black silicone is leaching something toxic. I must not have let it cure long enough. The fish are in terrible shape. This is how I found my prized rotkeil... :( He is still alive but barelly hanging on. I am on 80% WC, day #3 in a row. and have 6 lbs of carbon in the tank.
I hope he pulls through I love this guy...

If the GE1 was cured it shouldn't be an issue. black or otherwise.

I would take a good look around for other possible contaminant sources.

Well the 300 was running with the fish, the tank, the heaters and filters before no prob. Obviously I have tested for ammo, nitrite and nitrate. That's not it.

New to the tank:
3D background = safe
GE1 silicone = questionable
GE2 silicone = safe
PVC tube = safe
Pond Foam = safe (other tanks with it are fine BTW)
Rocks = candidate?

Fish are breathing very heavy and rapidly, hidding and show no color. A severum is bulletproof so something has hold of this tank and it isn't a disease.. The massive WC's and carbon seen to be helping the most. With that info anyone have a different thought??? Tanks 81.5 degrees and ph 7.6 BTW. No RO yet.

maybe the silicone was not cured all the way. ge1 or ge2 both need to be cured from my understanding. Same with the pond foam does that need to be cured all the way as well. Yes the other tanks are fine but dont think you used as much in them as u did in this one. just food for thought.
