Fahaka Puffer

Going to be 96 hours tonight around 8, still hasnt really moved from left corner, not breathing hard, fins are still clear,no spots have appeared on body, and does move a lil when i go infront of him. I added two med size pieces of driftwood with anubius plants attached about an hour ago, along with wanter change. Ill keep everyone posted. I really hope the driftwood helps him, and he is not just a fish that sits around all day, although i think he is.

Well, its official he is sick. I put in a freeze dried krill, n it hit him in the mouth n he didnt eat it. What can i do, i do plan on using this tank as a reef in the future, so i dont want to put any medications that will stick to the silicone and kill the inverts/LR. I have a 20 gallon hospital tank, but i think putting him in that tank will do a lot more harm than good. I run purigen, chemipure elite, and matrix, will taking these things out while treating him mess them up? I know the matrix will lose its bacteria, but i can just throw it in my other tank for a while.

I'm thrilled you added some decor for him :D but I'm afraid it might be a little late. My guess is the stress of being out in the open like that had compromised his immune system & the GF have transferred something to him. Are they still in there? What are the parameters? What symptoms are you seeing other then refusing food? What's matrix?

Stop listening to anyone else and listen to me aqua-sol man i worked for my fahaka puffer it will work for yours. trust me, i treated mine with this and melafix at the same time and he is doing great months later.

No goldfish, ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10. Matrix is a bio filtration from seachem, its basically a bunch of rocks. The only symptoms i see is refusal to eat and lack of moving, hasnt even checked out 2 new plants/wood. I have the lunar lights on and still no activity.

Does this have copper? this tank is all reef ready including the lights, so i dont wanna limit my future options. Before i get comments about get a 60 gallon hospital tank, fully decked out for him lol , i dont have the money nor the space so that is out.

I'm sorry, getting to this thread late, but have you said what the temperature of your tank is? Try to get it around 78 to 80 if its not. Also, if he is getting really thin and not eating, you should try some raw shell on shrimp from the market. Freeze them for 24 hours, and then thaw one out in some tank water along with some fresh pressed garlic. I don't think you need substrate, but i have two caves in my tank and my fahaka loves to rotate caves every few mins/ hours. He is pretty active unless he has just eaten, or just woken up.

Yes, that product contains copper. I've never seen a healthy puffer refuse live earthworms. Other thing--my fahaka went on a food strike for 3 weeks after he was moved from his 55g to his larger 125g. I thought he's be thrilled to be in the bigger tank. Earthworms finally got him out of it. I wouldn't worry too much just yet, he looks like he could go quite some time without a few meals. And I'd definitely not throw a bunch of meds at him!

Its good to hear your starting to take some of the advice given here... hopefully your fahaka will start to perk up a bit more...

That's one sad Fahaka.. :(

He looks so unhappy.. I have a Fahaka witch was treated very very bad, but even she was moving.
A fish loves his real home.. why should we not gave them that? Because your'e scared the filter will go down?

I also think that he/she needs a lot more. Plants, a cave, sand/gravel, en some stuff he can hide. Good luck with the Fahaka, i hope when you post new pics he will look more happy!
