Fahaka Puffer

Cloudy tank???? lol i guess you missed the part where i said i have a 55 gallon sump turning the tank over over 13 times per hour. Being the puffer expert that you obviously are, i would think you wouldn't compare a gsp to a 10in fahaka, I also have kept gsp's and they where very active more so than i assume a 10in fahaka will ever be. The crab is gone now, like i said i just got this puffer 2 days ago, and yesterday it had been less than 24 hours the fish had been in there when i added the crab, so forgive my fish keeping if he didnt eat it, as soon as your gsp's would have lol.

my bad camera must not have been used in a while, wipe the dust off the lense. the picture of one end of the tank to the other you can see the light through the water, like when its cloudy out with one spot where the sun shines through and you can see the sunshine coming through only that one spot. im not claiming to be an expert, and puffers are alike in the sense of their colors being off or some sort of way to show they arent happy. act like GSP are the only puffer i have ever kept or been around someone keeping. i have been around many fahakas(none barebottom BTW) and all of them have been active and even if they saw a dog move in the room they would get excited by the movement thinking someone was in the room. your going to keep your puffer how you want. but 10 years from now show us your puffer(if hes even still in existence)

No my bad, I have metal halide lighting, which kinda penetrates the water. I was unaware light shining in the water is a sign of a dirty tank, ill have to upgrade to a flourescent bulb so i will no longer have that problem. Its funny all the fahakas you have seen have been extremely active, i have read countless articles and seen alot of forums and alot have commented on there laziness. Unfortunatly im not sure if i will even be around in another 10 years, so im really not sure if my puffer will be. Ill be sure to look you up and send you a pic.

i worked in a pet store for a few years and have come across a lot of people with puffers, customers, employees. i have personally seen about 6 or 7 different people with fahakas, all of which were active when i saw them

Wonderful!!!

Really I'm on your side here cuz i hate when people tell me i'm doing wrong when clearly it's working at my house but... If the fahaka is super inactive they may be something wrong. My Fahaka will sit at the edge of the tank until I walk in the room then he doesn't stop trying to get my attention until I leave the room. However he wasn't doing this for the first 3 weeks I had him in the 120 gallon tank, shortly after he got ich which I treated and then he was like an entirely different fish. He's been amazingly active for over a month now. Fahakas will become active when comfortable in their environment, he may have a parasite which is very common in Fahakas. If you notice he is getting worse treat him, if that doesn't work then it likely is the fact that he isn't comfortable. That being said he may just need to adjust to the new surroundings, how long have you had him in there?

Hey rod, i am a little concerned as well. I have only had him for around 2 days but he has not swam very much at all. Im wondering if the flow is too strong for him? The tank was previously a reef, and it turns itself over a lil over 12 times per hour, also i have a chiller which is pushing out a couple hundred gph as well. He has eatin 4 large feeders, 2 tiger barbs and a crab so im assuming thats good for a brand new fish. How long should i wait before his inactivity becomes an issue? Are large fahakas more lethargic than small ones?

Ps. Im well aware feeders are bad, I have never owned such a large predatory fish and couldn't help myself. I wanted to see the power of it swimming through the water, unfortunatly the goldfish swam into his mouth lol. The tiger barbs were an experiment to see if they were to small and fast for him to pursue.

Whoops forgot, I talked to my cousin today and he said when he bought him he was in a 125 and the owner said he was really calm. When they approached the tank the puffer didnt move, and when scooped out there wasnt too much thrashing for such a big fish. This kinda makes me think something is wrong, i didnt think much of it as the fish is big fat and doesnt show any obvious signs of health problems. Is it good to treat before hand or just wait it out.
