finally, no more water changes!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You're not actually changing 24 gallons a day. You're diluting. There was a thread and a chart I think on MFK before on how to calculate your auto-WC. I would like to know about the temp fluctuations as well.

I'd love to see this auto-WC chart/calculator:naughty:

How is the temperature holding up? Any concerns there, particularly when winter rolls around? 1gph probably not enough to change anything...
temp is fine, winter might be a challenge but im trying to think of something ingenious;)

24% w/c seems like alot in 24 hours...plans on lowering that amount?
thats 168% weekly.
How long is the rated capacity on your carbon filter before it needs the cartridge changed?
yes i plan on lowering it, but since i skipped last weeks w/c on this tank figured it cant hurt to run er like this for a few days atleast.
rated capacity is 15,000g, but since were dealing with fish and they cost $5 a piece, i figure i'll change monthly.

very cool! how much total cost?

filter housing was free($20), plumbing pipe was free.
2 pack carbon filter-$10
pressure regulator that is crap-$5
emmiters-$5
1/4"tubing-$5
brass 3/4 to 1/4, sleeve-$5
3 aqualifters-$30(these are not needed but ensure no air in the overflows at anytime, cheap insurance)

Can you help us non-plumbers out? What is a aqualifter?

not a plumbing thing, basically a small water pump that sucks air/water out of the overflow and back into the tank. google it for a better explanation.

Does the carbon filter take care of any chlorine and or chloramine? Or do you have to add a dechlorinator daily as well?
