Rhino Lining will work from what a rep told me.its alot more expensive than this stuff unless you can get ahold of it without going through a distributor who wants to apply it. some of the knockoffs I wouldn't trust though as I experienced personally there product does'nt bond and it bubbles really bad and isn't a rubberized product but hardens and can crack rather then flex. a couple years back the Rhinolining guys had a box lined and had fish in it as a demonstration at a car show I was at
I thought of that option as well, but it was a little more that $250 for them to spray it on for me.

Hi, great thread so far. Will be following along. I'm building a 450 plywood with epoxy and fiberglass. Wish I had seen this about 6 months ago. Oh well, I've still got two sumps to build, so I might give this a try. Talked to a guy at PermaDri this morning and they are getting me a quote on one gallon shipped for me to try. I'm betting one gallon will probably be enough for both my sumps (40" x 36" x 18"). If this does work, it might make life simpler for a lot of people building plywood tanks.

He did mention, and you might already know this, that when the tank is full of water, the part that is under water will be brown and the part above the water line will be black. He said that when it painted on and when it's immersed in water, it will take on the brown color. Not sure how important that is to people, but thought I'd mention it. Won't matter to me at in a sump, but in a tank could be different.

Another thing he mentioned is that they have some kind of material for reinforcing joints and corners. Where to pieces come together to for a 90degree angle, then you put down a coat of rubber, apply the reinforment paper, then coat again. Said it adds tons of strenth to the joints.

I hope you guys in the states are able to get this stuff cheap.

I heard about the black turning brown under water, and i wont really mind that. It wont look bad i dont think.
I also heard of that strips of material to reinforce the corners. i dont realy thing its needed in a tank this size and i think it may be too late to add it. Did he mention a product name for the material?

i sure hope this stuff is even near as cheap as up north. otherwise i might have to move;) seems you kanucks get all the cool stuff, and less fish restrictions:irked:

keep up the primo work:thumbsup: i know i'm jumping ahead but i can't wait to see your next project:D

?, how flexible is this stuff. wondering if you could make molds, or cut grooves in the wood for seals, kinda like an o-ring.

should do a test to see if after submersion you can dry it out and apply another coat. if so this would be great as you could probably make tanks that could be taken apart and moved. just thinking of being able to go up/down flights of stairs, pre-making boards to mix and match... oh god i need to get some of this $H!T!

does anyone know how much it costs in the us and where to order, b/c i swear if its reasonable i'll order some tuesday.:headbang2

as for the brown, just stick some rocks and driftwood in it and you got a background:naughty:

I emailed Liquidrubber in uk yesterday to ask if this was suitable for a tank built using breeze blocks and having glass viewing windows.
This is the reply I got,
Thank you for your enquiry.

I’m afraid Liquid Rubber will not be suitable for this application.

Kind Regards

If its reasonable, im gonna give it a try anyway.

You might look at their Drylar product as it is formulated for concrete
