I sent this to PermaDri.

Heard about your product this weekend and am interested in finding out more providing that your product is the same as "Liquid Rubber Zavalar" . The application that I am interested in using "PermaDri Rubber Coat" for would be for making aquariums for my home. Questions I have are (1) is this product rated for "potable water" (2) life expectancy in a submerged environment (3) ability to adhere to glass, acrylic, and silicone? I would appreciate any recommendations for the application that I have the possible intentions for your product. I also require ether a local source in the San Antonio, TX area or the ability to order in the product.

Got this back.

Thanks for inquiring about our products. Unfortunately we would have a few issues with this particular application that gives me good reason to not recommend using Rubber Coat for an aquarium. (1) we are not approved for potable water for smaller tanks (2) our product do not adhere to silicone as our products are water based.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to email me.

This guy doesn't seem to want to even answer all the questions that were put forth. I would think that in these tougher economic times they would be happy to possibly expand their sales potential. I hope that the others here in the U.S. get more positive resopnses from the reps at PermaDri and if you do please PM me with their name and contact info as I want nothing to do with Chad.

i called and talked to this guy and the reason he is like that is that it is not tested for fish tank application he has sent out a few gal to a small group of people of which he has asked to trial the "pond coat" (i am one of them) and has asked me to respond to him with a small testimonial about how it worked and in what application ..

i should get mine late this week or early next and im going to do a test tank that will be small and then will start working on my larger tank ..

the guy i talked to said that he has been to this forum and has seen this thread and is aware of how we would like to use the product .. but since it is not tested he dose not feel comfortable selling it to people under false hope aka selling this product and having it not work in this application

i hope this has cleared it up for you a little bit and if you have any other questions you can post them here and i will see what i can do for you.

i wonder if the rubber surface will be harder to clean of algae... does it make a clean surface coat or is it kind of porous?

still, the elasticity of the rubber is a huge plus

I never have algea anymore... I leave the lights off on all my tanks unless I'm feeding or looking at the fish
ok but do you have live plants? i guess not...
but that's not a big deal compared to all the pros of this material!

and what do you think of epoxy adhesion on liquid rubber? i'd like to do a DIY background and cover/paint it with epoxy but would it stick well if the rest of the tank was rubbered?

Still not alot done yet.

I sanded the tank yesterday then stained it. It looked great outside, but once i brought it in the house, I changed my mind on it. So i sanded it back off today and went with a black gloss paint instead. I find it looks much better. The tank got a really good sanding in the long run.

I will try to start finnishing the stand and tank trim this week. But who knows how far i'll get with that.

Waiting for the glass is killing me!!
