I did a full second coat to the tank today. I also gave the top frame a coat, as seen in the video. the top frame will only get one coat, maybe two as it would be submerged.

after i do around 6 coats, i think it will be thick enough to be waterproof.
how many gallons do you figure you'd have used up by the 6th coat?

great build man, its totally inspired me to go this route. Its so much cheaper than the best deals ive got on epoxy and other alternatives. its gonna be great to see that tank full of water and that ray.

man this stuff is great! seeing it applied so easily makes me want to just get some to "play" with:naughty:
i'm sure you want it to look great, but i don't think i could keep myself from just slathering it on and putting water into it:D

Great build. can't wait to see the progress.

Superb thread Joey......and great find with the Zavlar.

I am hoping to model my next DIY after yours. OK with you?

I just scored a cracked 180 gallon for FREE. Man that word has a nice ring to it.....FREE.

I'll be following until you've got fish thriving in it. Best of Luck!
I also modeled mine after others builds, a little from this one, a little from that one.... seeing how others did it, help me out alot.

by the time the 6th coat is one, it will take up 2 gallons of water im assumming, since i will use both gallons until it is gone.

funny you say that. i also played with it when i got it home. i put some of a piece of plywood to see how it would stick(cant get it off now)
I put a glob of a piece of paper, waited until it dryed and had to wet the paper to get it off to play with. it acts just like in the video in my other thread on zavar. It streches very far and then shrinks back to where it was befor with no evidence that it was stretched.
I also water proofed a small cardboard box. it was holding water no problem within 24hrs. i was even able to lift the bax with water in it by the top lip and nothing happened, even with the box sagging alot when lifted, it did not leak.

im horrible for rushing projects so i can get fish in, but im going to try to take my time with this one.

I checked out your vid, nicely done. The stuff's got some great properties and I cant wait to play with it as well. The fact that it's somewhat scratch resistant yet malliable is really neat. If this works out are you planning any other tanks in the future? Your rays are going to love it...

Well I spoke with one of the Guys from Liquid Rubber just a few mins ago... Great Guy, I have directed him towards this build and hope that he and the others from Liquid rubber will enjoy the outcome, I have also informed him of my "larger" scale test which I would like to perform to see how well it handles the deeper water pressure. Should we see the same great outcomes that we have so far I beleive that we might have a new more realistically priced version of the other types of products which are currently available as well as the simplicity of a paint on product since alot of people are always unsure of using more complex 2 part systems or fiberglassing.

I really can't wait to hear tonights update from Joey :D

well, hopefully it will have atleast a minimal bond and work like a rubber liner does... pressure, using the silicone as more of a gasket than an adhesive. If it's like the ames products, it will stick just fine as mine stuck quite well.
