You know, the key to getting the vodka dosing to work is to not drink it.

For the most part yes. I have a harlequin tusk in there that needs to come out in the next couple weeks before I finish stocking.

I also have a 3-4" navarchus angel...but so far he hasnt bothered any corals that I have seen.

Looking for some reef friendly wrasses that can keep up with my mystery. I would still do a lineatus or rhombo pair...but I am worried that the mystery would kick their butt.

My nitrates are running a little high. I am going to be doing VERY low vodka dosing to see if I can get it down, but not completely remove it. Sorta a hybrid vodka thing.

At any rate, started this morning with the first 0.2ml...will be posting pictures of the corals so that we can see color changes, pe, and growth in the months to come.

No, I am doing that as well... :D

I am just waiting for the masses of macro in my tank to be eaten...and this summer I will most likely get some graceilaria (sorry spelling)...Im also going to work on an algae scrubber when I get some more free time.

My sump is packed! haha.

I want to leave as much growth in tank as possible right now because the chevron tang is taking 0 in the way of prepared foods.

Things are looking good, I like it, Nice Cheveron, I think they are way over priced though even at what you payed... since they turn a nice shade of tan/green as adults, though they still have a nice look to them. Seeing your setup makes me want to start my huge one soon... but still have to put it off sadly :(

what is your water change schedule and %?
Once a week, 20g so approximately 16%. Once fish stocking is complete my main goal (before adding corals) will be to nail down the filtration, and water changes as so that water quality is pristine. I might actually upgrade my h2o changes to 30g a week.

They are definitely overpriced...at $150 shipped for about a 4" individual this was a "steal". He looks much better now, will try to get pictures but there is something up with my macro mode.

I actually like the adult coloration more. If you get a nice black or forest green background with gold stripes they can be stunning as adults.

Speaking about getting overpriced fish, my stocking will hopefully be complete by the end of April (should be) and includes adding three blotched anthias. That is $750 worth of fish! I will be riding out the cost of this adventure for awhile. Have to get everything in tank now though before aggression can really take hold.

I remember our talks on your large tank, and I cant wait. Dustin's (nonstophoops) 210g thread is the closest we come to really being monster right now, but I am hoping for good things out of both you and I further down the road. Your life is busier than mine, (at least it was last we talked) and so its understandable you havent begun the massive undertaking that tank will be!

It's true they are a nice fish as adults, but they gouge you on price because of their bright colours therefore high demand when they are young. I would argue there are cheaper similar tangs though... but thats just me... But at the same time I recently decided I'm putting 3 golden dwarf morays into my system lol. Now there is a gouge... but hopefully I can get them breeding :D then I could make a fortune.

WOW, that said they are nice fish... but I figured in my setup I'd go with cheaper/more of them. But I know what you mean about the stocking... I basically plan to put all 100 or so fish in at once (most maxing out around 3-4 inches) by building up a huge biofiltration by heavy feeding the "empty" tank and with like a cup a day of pure ammonia... (well maybe not a cup... I'm going to do some calculations on that later) to simulate a higher bioload then I'm actualy adding so everything will be perfect so I can add corals sooner. As well as to prevent "territory" issues like you mentioned.

Ya its going to be one hell of a tank... as soon as I have a more perminant place (probably 2ish years) I'm going to start on it, but I'm going to start saving for it soon. And your right I am still quite busy... school+work etc lots of fun lol, I'm still lacking in a system too :( mite end up doing a nano just so I have something to keep me happy in the short run haha.
Basicaly I'm living through you guys wile I don't have a system of my own haha.

All sound to be good plans kev...and makes sense to save and wait. It will be worth it when everything is just right.

This thread is finally going in the right direction and not just being bickering any more. I hope that in the next couple months I can keep you somewhat entertained.

For tonight, we are going to have a video up in about ten minutes...which no one will probably see cause I post so late at night. Its not very good quality, but it shows better than all the cruddy pictures I can take...so here is where I am basically starting from. Another video in april when stocking is complete. :D
