I actually like the adult coloration more. If you get a nice black or forest green background with gold stripes they can be stunning as adults.
It's true they are a nice fish as adults, but they gouge you on price because of their bright colours therefore high demand when they are young. I would argue there are cheaper similar tangs though... but thats just me... But at the same time I recently decided I'm putting 3 golden dwarf morays into my system lol. Now there is a gouge... but hopefully I can get them breeding then I could make a fortune.
three blotched anthias. That is $750 worth of fish! I will be riding out the cost of this adventure for
awhile. Have to get everything in tank now though before aggression can really take hold.
WOW, that said they are nice fish... but I figured in my setup I'd go with cheaper/more of them. But I know what you mean about the stocking... I basically plan to put all 100 or so fish in at once (most maxing out around 3-4 inches) by building up a huge biofiltration by heavy feeding the "empty" tank and with like a cup a day of pure ammonia... (well maybe not a cup... I'm going to do some calculations on that later) to simulate a higher bioload then I'm actualy adding so everything will be perfect so I can add corals sooner. As well as to prevent "territory" issues like you mentioned.
I remember our talks on your large tank, and I cant wait. Dustin's (nonstophoops) 210g thread is the closest we come to really being monster right now, but I am hoping for good things out of both you and I further down the road. Your life is busier than mine, (at least it was last we talked) and so its understandable you havent begun the massive undertaking that tank will be!
Ya its going to be one hell of a tank... as soon as I have a more perminant place (probably 2ish years) I'm going to start on it, but I'm going to start saving for it soon. And your right I am still quite busy... school+work etc lots of fun lol, I'm still lacking in a system too mite end up doing a nano just so I have something to keep me happy in the short run haha.
