Exactly.

And, I wouldnt think so. TDS meter is measuring the total dissolved solids...(duh) and there is so much dissolved in saltwater that it is not really a good means of determining h2o quality.
+1 here. The TDS meter measures everything including salt so it will not give you a reading at all. It will just read error. I have one and have tried it.

Everything with Pacific Island Aquatics went well from their standpoint. Everything came in looking good and was bagged and shipped well. For the prices they have I definitely recommend looking into purchasing from them if you want some of the rarer fish from the pacific. I will definitely be purchasing from him again.

I cant wait to get my dang fish in...but the harlequin didnt go into the trap at all yesterday.

At least as far as I could see.

The angelfish tried once, and had a little freakout when he realized the hole was much too small.

The blue tang somehow managed to fit into a much smaller hole than the last time I trapped him, and just freaked out in there for about a minute until I was able to get him out.

Mystery wrasse was slightly amused, and poked around the entrance, but never went in.

Oh well. Day two starts now.

Post pics of my new chevy (the one they will be sending me as the last one apparently had a damaged mouth) when I see them online.

So what happens when you order a fish from www.pacificislandaquatics.com ?

Well this is what happens!

First off, pacificislandaquatics ships with UPS, I prefer this because UPS actually drives out to where I live, the middle of nowhere wisconsin. Shipping is also a flat rate of $50, and I am sure that they paid more than that to get it out to me. Shippers from the contiguous 48 have paid $60-80 to have UPS deliver to my place.

They offer an arrive alive, stay alive seven day guarantee. This is in line with some of the best in the business, but they do not cover the cost of shipping.

The styro box is hand made (or at least it was in my case), and there was a 2x4" hole in the top of it. On the inside of the hole was taped two heat packs, which were both still warm when I got my fish.

The water was cold however.

Aside from that, no complaints.

Fish came in looking good, mouth was a little funny, it is gaping, but you will sometimes have this with young bristlemouth tangs.

One thing that I did NOT like was that they never told me when they shipped the fish. I got tracking information after they shipped it, and earlier that day I had just asked to see a picture of the new fish they had gotten me. Communication was a little screwy, but I doubt it was intentional.

Chevy was around 3" with some great coloration/patterning. Only cost me $150 shipped to my house. This is a crazy good deal on this fish.

I dripped him for an hour and a half, and he was pretty stressed (pictured lying on bottom of bucket). I put him into the tank, did lights out for 24 hours to keep the purple tang at bay, and covered the tank.

This was on Tuesday. Since then he has showed a little ich, has a split fin, and some lesions on the mouth. However he has slowly started to eat more and more things in the tank, from micro and macro algae, to brown algae on the substrate.

He is NOT taking any frozen foods, or NLS. He also didnt take any vitamin enriched nori that I tried to feed yesterday. Give him time I think, he has only been in captivity for about a week or so now.

Overall experience with pacificislandaquatics? B+

Fish is high quality, but a little rough. For the price though, it cant be beat, and these guys seem to mainly get fish in, and distribute them out. To their credit however, they claimed to have not sent me a previous tang as it had a mouth lesion that the owner said he didnt want to take a risk on. Worth checking out.

Sorry for picture quality, I was slightly dazed and confused. Not expecting a fish that day, until the doorbell rang and boom. Fish. Half asleep in picture #1. :D

So thats it folks, the last of my big fish are in the tank.

Things that have yet to be done.

#1. Remove harlequin tusk.
#2. Stock with pistol shrimp and cleaner shrimp pair.
#3. Finish fish stocking, this has changed some, but here it is
5 banggai cardinals (tank raised...and yes, I expect some thinning of the herd as they come of age)
2 more reef safe wrasses that can put up with my mystery wrasse
1 midas blenny
3-5 rare anthias (3 if large ones, 5 if small ones)
#4 Finish and get filtration/water changes for this stocking level down to a science.
#5 Finish coral stocking.
#6 Sit back and enjoy the next couple years of watching the community grow into itself.

Sweet. Can't wait to see that chevy.

Good write up on the process with Pacific, I did a very short version in mine and this is a much better writeup. I agree that they get the fish and ship em right out, no middle men. Shortest amount of time in stressed transit possible which I really like. Prices are quite good as well. I have talked to the owner pretty extensively and he does at least some of the diving himself. He doesn't seem totally professional(like not telling you he shipped it), but is very friendly and is currently looking for a fish for me to send with my replacement Flame Wrasse. Not a bad place at all imo either.
