Fly Fishing thread

Hey everyone,

I live to flyfish (checkout my Avatar). I live in SoCal and am proud to admit that I'm an addict. I fish the Sierras any chance I get, even if it's only for a day at a time. What's a 700 mile roundtrip drive, when you have an addiction to feed?:grinno:

Welcomes to the forums! Fly fishing is truly an addicting sport.
Drop by our cabin in georgia to pick me up if you ever happen to pass by lol!!

All of the frustration and suffering through teaching myself how to fly fish has finally paid off. I went out for a few hours Saturday afternoon. I had just strung up some new, heavier line on my fly rod and was basically going to try and get a feel for the weight difference between the new and the old. 5wt is what I had, and I bought 8 wt. It worked magically. The heavier line allowed me to cast about 10+ feet farther than normal with half the effort.

After getting the feel for the line I threw on my waders and hopped into the lake. I only worked about 200 yards of shoreline, but it paid off. :D

My first decent largemouth on the fly. I didn't get a great measurement on him, but I would say that he was roughly 18 inches, and close to 4lbs.

Not 10 minutes later and 20 feet from where I caught the first one, another beast hit me. I figure this guy was roughly the same size, maybe a tad bit heavier. What a blast!

ok well i dont fly fish alot but i wanna start. i know a spot where its like a brakish pond. its just a little bit of salt. BUT there are tons of large mouths in there. TONS! the pond it never fished. i pulled out a nice like 18-19 incher yesterday. i have a 5 wt and an 8 wt. what should i use for some large mouths? the pond is very shallow. i catch alot of bass there on floating frogs...any suggestions?

Some large poppers would probably work. That's what I used for those guys. ^^ I've also caught largemouths on the fly with mice imitations. If they aren't coming to the surface then a clouser would be my next choice.

Good luck man, take pics!

i will. i didnt make it down there today. haha i think im gunna use my 5 wt.... i havent fly fished in a while! can wait.

Bass tank if there is not a lot of structure use the lighter rod. the different weights help mainly with casting flies use the 8wt if you wil cast large clousers, or maybe an especially large popper it is funner to fight them on smaller weights but they are harder to cast bass flies.
XechoX Nice bass!

ok well i dont know what you mean by poppers...i noticed that im going to need to get myself a pair of waiters or just boots for that matter before i can go flyfish this pond. only because its veryvery shallow and over grown. can u show me a pick of a popper?
