How can you tell?

With gars the two most common species that are available in the trade are floridas and alligator gars. Patterning is consistent with a yoy florida gar.

The other species do show up on occasion though. Patterning and fins are wrong for a cuban gar. Mouth is not long enough for a longnose. They also tend to have a slimmer build then what is seen here. Shortnose are usually similarly slim. True spotted gars are generally not available in the hobby unless you have caught it yourself. What gets labelled as spotted in stores are floridas originating from the farms throughout SE Asia. The only other gar that leaves would be tropical which look similar to floridas. But the atractosteus genus is generally going to display larger fins in comparison to the lepisosteus genus.

Given everything about, the patterning the size of the fins your gar looks to be a florida. The head shape is the only thing that had me taking a second and third look at your pictures. The mouth seems a little atypical, but it is not uncommon to see things like this from some of the cb stock out of asia.

Hope that helps.

It helps quite a bit, but there's is something very off with the tail, the fin is seperated from the top of the tail, I believe you can see it in the pictures
