Gar Identification - Post your Gar to be ID'd HERE!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I based it of the first pic but the about looks elongated and likely due to the pic. The top of the nose ends where a darknstone and so that's why lol. It's probably Florida if from the lfs. No way to tell the difference b/w fl and a spotted gar. Unless u know where it was collected from.

Well it's from segrest so that's what was pushing me towards Florida. But with as horrible as their labeling is i wanted a second opinion. I might stop back in today to see if I can get a better pic. @kno4te

Probably Florida gar.

Looks like a Florida gar. Try getting a powerhead and placing some strips of tilapia or fish in it. In meantime would leave some guppies in there and see if they start to go missing. Sometimes the movement with current will get it to feed. Add some floating plants. How's ur water? Temp? Aeration? What was it eating at the lfs? Has it been acting funny? What size tank is it in? There's a slight bend at the mouth...was that always there? Did it bump into glass? Repost in the fish disease section with answers to these questions and you'll get some help.
Thank you for the reply.
I would like to share that I used tilapia in the begining to feed him and it was a success. I was happy to see him feeding on them. And now I give him guppies and he feed on them.
But I need identifIcation on what type of gar is it.
