I've seen a picture of fsg that almost look black, and these gars spots are starting to fuse into each other. Do their patterns change drastically with age? Or remain relatively the same?

With age, patterns on some gars change drastically and on some the patterns remain similar, but not the same. Floridas change as they lose that long stripe and develop more spots which is in my opinion relatively similar, but if you look at a Tropical gar for example their pattern drastically changes.

For Floridas I would say their patterns change quite a bit.

THANKS GUYS! I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. I was guessing Florida cause I found out their availability over true spotted, and also it's pattern is more similar to florida gar. Any idea of the size these guys max out in aquaria? I know they get way bigger than true spotted gar

Around 24 inches, maybe larger

I said around because it was a vague answer, within a few inches either direction.

I can't really tell on my phone but those look to be Floridas, not entirely sure.

Thanks I really appreciate the info. I've noticed their patterns slowly starting to change. The spots on their backs are starting to grow Ito eachother. I'm hoping their backs get dark

I contradicted myself in my answer but I'm always helpful to provide my opinions and some facts on gar keeping.

If they had a bigger footprint to grow out do you think they'd grow bigger? That's what I plan on doing, but will not if it's for nothing. I want em to have room to swim around, that's my main concern when they're older.

they might be, but most likely not. There are a 10000 gallon tank that I know have a few Florida gar in there, the tank is at its' 9th years right now and none of the Florida is even pass 20'' yet.
