To each his own, and i agree with the comments that dogs are all designer hybrids and who knows what rays mix in the wild.

As far as wild Hybrids, I 100 percent agree this happens more than people acknowledge... especially in the motoro complex (aparicio, mot,mm etc) rays cross breed easily in captivity even when presented with the same species (unlike most other fish) and i have never heard of infertility resulting from a cross (like a mule or flowerhorn). I think we try to divide them by distrubution and local promintent markings when they are essential just that localities.

I wish someone would start a thread of hybrids, but only known gene lines to help ID rays that pop up with questionable backgrounds.

I keep only pure bloods but if they mix breed its no big deal to me

I had one male p14 2 female p14 and a Leo female but the male bred with the female p14 twice then only bred with the Leo
This tells me even when given the choice they will still mix bred so I'm sure it happens in the wild

An id thread would be nice. It just has one flaw. A hybrid ray can produce such a wide range of patterns you never can tell. One ray can be completely different from its brother or sister. You can have some crazy hybrid parents and end up with one pup that looks like a pure bred. An id thread for hybrids becomes an impossibility. Unless there are general consistent patterns that come through. Doesn't always hold true.

Very true but...if people still know what bloodlines are in that particular hybrid(s) they can still be grouped together. Would be a great thread to get going. I will have several that can be added very soon.

I have a few that I can get pics of. Some are unknown background but others I know. We would need a mod to be in on it so the random pica could be grouped together in the correct sub category.

this thread is getting way off topic!

this thread is getting way off topic!

The op question was answered and the discussed continued to morph from the price only into an off shute of price related topic. The hybrid vs pure blood has a huge relivence to price. The ability to differentiate between different fish makes a huge difference in price. Site star vs super spot motoro price. It all has relivence to the original topic.

I think it it will only be worth while if we no the bloodlines of the hybrids. How do we get a mod involved?

Yes it went off topic a bit, but this is one of the best ray discussions on this forum in a while.

I ment, for example the star ray. The full bloodlines are not known but it has Motoro in it. So it could be placed in a Motoro based hybrid section were the exact lines are unknown but you can tell there is some form of Motoro in the ray.

As to a mod. We pm one that has access to this section. Maybe rob might but we will have to see. After we get the mix compiling of pics we label them as x groups then give the list to the mod to organize and clear out unnessisary posts that would naturally show up during the construction of the thread.

One other way is to have one person create it and everyone send that person the pics of each ray. Via email or what ever.

I have bred and seen many p14 x Leo or bd and they all seam to turn out like high grade or big spot p14 with a slightly blacker base colour

Now this is a good thing for people who like p14 but hate waiting for them to turn fully black and white

I could easily pass my hybrids off as pure blood p14 if I wanted

This is when trusting the breeder you buy from comes in

Trusting one breeder and buying from one breeder also has its problems as everyone seams to buy pairs from one breeder this limits the mixing of bloodlines as the new buyer is breeding brother and sister

I feel the Asian farms are giving themselves problems with all the hybrids they are kicking out as a lot of people don't believe so rays are what they say but that's another story

A ray or any other fish is only worth what someone is willing to pay
