Well, I called for the R. Tapajos and wound up buying a trio of Balzani's. Kinda psyched about them. I was initially informed that they require a cold period. However, Jeff stated that these balzani's are tank raised and that requirement is pretty much bred out of them. So, lookin forward to the BG from designs by Nature, driftwood from Manzman, and the balzani's from Tangled Up in Cichlids. Like a lil kid at christmas this week!!

ANY BALZANI PICS WOULD BE APPRECIATED !!!!!!!!

I never heard that before. I would think somthing like that would take more than a couple of generations to eliminate. I'm not a Balzani expert, but that surprizes me. Every balzani I've ever known of needed a cool down period especially males or they fade and die a premature death (maybe they were all WC fish). I'd be interested in hearing more about this.

I agree. Thats why I went with the other Geo's. However, Jeff asured me there is no concern with that whatsoever. If anyone is gonna convince of it, it would be him.

I believe they are multi-generationally tank raised. He also spoke to me about his catching these fish in Uruguay while temps were extremely mild as was the water temp.

Here are some Gg balzanii's I've had for a year or so. They are about 3" in length. I prefer allowing for a cooling off period, mainly because it mimics their natural conditions. Can't say if it is essential though. Don't know of any controlled experiments, just anecdotal accounts.

I also acquired a bunch of the yellow race from peathenster back in February. They're about 1.5" in size now, and just starting to gain some color.

Have they had any fry as of yet? They are a very cool fish.

Not yet. I'm wondering if a cool down period this fall/winter will spur them on in the spring? I wouldn't be surprised if something happened sooner though. The other Gymnos in the tank are flirting around with each other all the time.

Ive read alot of folks had their balzani's spawn soon after the cool down.
