I had one from John and he converted over fairly easy. He would eat floating and sinking pellets, and frozen foods, but as was stated earlier he was pretty territorial. I lost him while moving.

Hmm, this does go to show just how individualistic these fish can be. Mine loved to swim with my limas and a small tsn and was never territorial. Always hung out in the open waiting for me to feed him more shrimp and pellets. I loved the way he would try to be as un noticeable as possible sitting in his tripod stance always. :)

Jan 29 update. After ~3 month fast (literally they had 1 or 2 small guppies), one of the two took half of a huge shrimp. They flat out refused to take shiners (small marine fishes) frozen-thawed; neither sinking catfish pellets (fed to tankmates - 6 irwinies). The other one is still fasting. Have not tried garlic yet but looks like will have to. Will keep trying and updating. The fasting one is on the left. The one that ate is on the right - eaten 3 days ago.

Thanks. Really would love to stick with the frozen-thawed goal for now. But worms are a good idea to offer as a light snack during a long fast, instead of my usual guppies. Safer too. Thanks again.

Looks good bro. The colors are looking amazing. I think it's a safe bet that since one took a piece that the other will soon also. Once that one starts eating like crazy for you the other one will probably follow suite once he sees it eating. Try feeding during lights out also? Dump in some shrimp and check for fat bellies in the morning? Just a thought.

Nice colors on your Juruense :WHOA:

Looking at yours beings back fond memories of mine. I do see some nice yellow coloration coming up on your 2 pieces so please update as time allows. Don't worry about getting them on shrimp. I also fed mine till 12" and I thought this is it, it would be on feeders for life but one fine day without starvation, it just ate (also coz I was lazynto buy him feeders and just tried my luck with a whole sized mar key prawn :D

I got mine onto shrimp with garlic, soak the shrimp in water with garlic for about 15 mins then try to feed. I tried this for 3 days then he took it.

Hope this helps,

Ben

I also had a Jur a few years back that I got to eat shrimp the same way as this one, but one day decided he didn't want shrimp, or any frozen food I offered him. He continued to refuse for 3 1/2 months, at which point I had to give guppies. He lives with a friend now and to this day eats only live.
Just wanted to share my story,

Ben
