What type of tank?
glass or acrylic, drilled for overflows or not...
Best thing is to do is to start a new thread in the
"Set-up and Filtration" forum here...

I'd be happy to assist you...

240g aqua glass tank. no overflow, not drilled.

been searching and trying to learn about filtration. i have so much to learn and so many questions! search search search :irked:

with the size of the tank, its better to have a sump then a canister? i was thinking about getting a fx5 to start and build a sump when i obtain more knowledge of how to actually make one. would a fx5 work on a 240g?

cant wait to get the new tank up and running so i can put georgie in it :D

if they still fight you have to put some more GG. and pacus ,but make sure you put the same size and don't forget 2 gg.or 2 pacus they always fight 100 %

A single FX5 on a 240 with 3 gg's will be fine.
Just make sure to keep the substrate vacuumed.
I would provide circulation via airstone(s) or powerheads(s) in the rear corners pointing toward the front center of the tank.
I would put the pick-up tube near the bottom in the center rear, and the direct the dual nozzle output toward the front corners.

If you do go with the FX5, be sure to service it as nessasary and do so with dechlorinated water, or tank water.
They are available on E-bay for approx 240 delivered.

After you understand and get comfortable building a Wet/Dry, you could add this to the system as well. IMO that would be Ideal, and your filter maintenance would be longer between cleanings.

Hope this helps you get started...Zennz:D
