if they still fight you have to put some more GG. and pacus ,but make sure you put the same size and don't forget 2 gg.or 2 pacus they always fight 100 %
I'm sorry but then you woke up and had your cornflakes, are you seriously saying that your solution to having aggression issues with three GG's in a 60g is to add more gg's?

A single FX5 on a 240 with 3 gg's will be fine.
Just make sure to keep the substrate vacuumed.
I would provide circulation via airstone(s) or powerheads(s) in the rear corners pointing toward the front center of the tank.
I would put the pick-up tube near the bottom in the center rear, and the direct the dual nozzle output toward the front corners.

If you do go with the FX5, be sure to service it as nessasary and do so with dechlorinated water, or tank water.
They are available on E-bay for approx 240 delivered.

After you understand and get comfortable building a Wet/Dry, you could add this to the system as well. IMO that would be Ideal, and your filter maintenance would be longer between cleanings.

Hope this helps you get started...Zennz:D
That's good advise.

I thing you confused the wrong posts in your reply:D

3 gg.i have 17",16"and 14" in 60 g.for 8 month.
Nothing like being good to those GG's huh?

That's like living in a small motel room with three 300lb men and no door to get out...:irked:

i will only have georgie, Al the pleco and maybe one more fish in the 240g.

your suggestions was very helpful. will be picking up an fx5, unless there is a better canister out there? any suggestion on brand for the powerheads?

i was thinking about adding sand instead of gravel. do GG prefer one over the other?

Eheim is another brand that is excellent in it's own right. They are initially higher in cost, but they do last for years and years and years...There are a few models that are rated for similar capacity as the FX5.
It's like your basic "Chevy vs. Ford" scenario, just look and see what you prefer.
Both are more than enough for your proposed fish stocking level, but then again, if you spend much time here at MFK, this too will come to pass...;)

As far as Powerheads, my choice would have to be the Hydor "Koralia"

They are designed to move water efficiently and they do a great job. Gobs of water movement, without that narrow stream that diseupts the substrate...
You could get by with 2 x #2's , however,
2 x #3's would be even better circulation yet... along with the FX5, that would be a filtration system that will work great for a 240g and the bioload you are thinking about.

Substrate is kinda what you want to look at. My GG could care less what is on the bottom.
Sand, Gravel to Rocks, and everything inbetween has it's pros and cons. To me, barebottom is the easiest to clean but you gotta like the look.

Remember GG's need to pop up for air, so just make sure there is ample room above the waterline for him to poke his mouth out of the water...

Hope this gives you a bit to think about...~Zennz;)

You do realise that when you have that tank stocked you will look at it and go 'hmm looks a bit empty' and in no time at all it will 3 times as many fish in it? Least that's what happpened with me and my 180g. I've got an FX5 and a powerhead in mine and its more than adequate so should be fine for yours as well.

Question for the long term growers:

George is off his food. Not normally a problem he pigs out for a few month then chills and grows until he needs more food.

Now he's going for food, holding it in his mouth for a few seconds and then spitting it out but is constantly looking for food being very friendly(weird) but not eating.

Tried everything from fruit(mango, lettuce, pomegranate, banana, peas grapes), daphina, blood worm, maggot, sausage, cheese the list goes on.

He's looking for food but not eating

Ideas? Water parms are fine BTW

Hey All

I have just got myself another 4 x Grey Giant Gourami's at about 5cm in size, I am going to be growing them out in a 6x2x2 for awhile and then I want to move one or two into my 10ft tank with my existing Gold Gourami. I am going to have to look at changing what fish I have in the 10footer at the moment and down the track and will probably get/build another tank, As I do want to keep most of the fish I have now.

just a couple of questions for all

1/ How do people find two or more gouramis get on in a tank?
2/ Would I want to have two females or a male and female? As I am sure the Gold I have is female.

Cheers

I had started with 3 EEGG's about 1-1.5",
Immediately one became dominant and got the name "Pork Chop Hanibal" :Dand the other 2, well, ahhh, they became part of the substrate so to say... :(
