GIANT gouramis

Any ideas how to catch a GG and store one for a couple of hours without damaging it?

Large cooler or tote with tank water and they will be fine for a few hours, just like that...
I got a large sock type KOI net that has really fine silk mesh. It is open on the end, so after you scoop up the GG it will just slide out the end when you put it in the holding container...

4th item down?

Can I borrow yours;)

Depending upon how drunk I get tonight, the GGs may be moving;)

I want to post his name because 'George the Giant gourami'(MFK member) not my Geroge the giant gourami is far too confusing, but anyway he may getting his wish of us keeping Georgina(not an mfk member:nilly:).

That is the one!! make sure to get the one that passes water and has the open end...it's worth the 50.00USD...

the first time a giant gourami splashes you, the room and winds up on the floor cussing you, you'll be glad you spent the money...;)

Labyrinth fish are pretty easy to keep in still water for a short time becaause they can use air outside the water...

I once moved a 22" gg and I was told to cover there eyes so they cannot see by using a large towel. It worked perfectly he was still as once he couldn't see, put him in a large drum and kept it dark, he moved without any damage. :)

Thanks.

Just curious though, I know that trick from fishing. How did you get to the stage where you could add the towel?

I often wonder how the hard part gets left out...
If you get to where you can put a towel over a GG's eyes, you will have already done the task. Just put them in the transport container, and close the lid...

Forgot to mention earlier, with that sock KOI net,
as soon as you herd the GG into the 12" hoop, quickly lift the whole thing out of the water...the big mess comes when the fish is caught and we still have them dangling just under the surface of the water... sooner they are cleared of the water they seem to quit thrashing about...;)

the gg was in a 4x2x2 and i used the towel straight up, soaked in tank water, then very slowly cornered the gg, and moved the towel over the top, the other end of towel was in tank so gg swam into it he also caught.

Looks like red-tailed GGs will become available in Australia within 6 months. A guy here in Adelaide has a heap of them in customs quarantine.
