I tried putting the background on in the dark, it worked fine until morning. Although Gussy wasn't scared, he did get a bit upset at the back of his tank being black. He constantly attacked the back wall, splashing several gallons of water out of the tank. I decided to forgo a background until I move him to a bigger tank. I'm guessing that being in a completely new environment will keep him from being a butthead about the background.

For some reason Gussy's tank water is pretty murky after the 25% water change, with a thin layer of slime on the inside tank surface. I'll keep changing 3 to 4 US gallons out every morning, it should clear up in a couple more days. Hopefully the medication will have done it's job and his fins will start growing to their full, proper length and size. I'll post a couple pics once the water clears up and certainly a bunch if his fins start growing (keeping fingers crossed).
I hope that he gets better for you i think that he'd love a bigger tank.

I am guessing that the layer of slime is due to the medication... Gussy is producing a lot of mucus over his body... this is normally a good thing... shows that the healing process is well underway... so this mucus layer gets washed away and coats the interior of the tank...

Hope it all works out Matt, sounds like everything is going well

George has had a bit of a strange day, been chasing the others around the tank none stop, just when everyone was getting along so well :irked:

Don't worry this is what happens as they start to mature.

He's still at it today, going after the big dollar all the time.
He really is picking on the wrong fish, about a year ago it's swim bladder started playing up and it could not gain any balance, it literally had to keep swimming to stay off the bottom. After various treatments over a month or so nothing would work and we were resigned to losing it, kept coming home expecting to find it dead and it would still be going. Didn't have the heart to kill it as it was quite happy to swim around constantly, occasionally feeding as well. Then after another month or so came home to find it chilling out in the middle of the tank as if nothing had happen, been fine every since. By far, weirdest fish keeping experience

I hope I'm not tempting fate ....

The silver dollar had all these problems?

Yes, all that from one fish, still going strong a year on

Bruce, any updated pic/vids on yours ggs?

George is in a mood today, won't eat anything, just stares at us. So much personality for a fish! Maybe upset by the water change in 'his tank'. Fin has sealed nicely will post more pics once healed fully
You all know he is going is turn out to be female, any ideas on sexing??
