Hi everyone,

I recently purchase a RTGG about 14" he has been fed pellets from the previous guy, but now hes in my tank he will only eat mealworms as my baby arowana only eats mealworms, ive tried to feed him peas, banana, cucumber, hikari cichlid gold pellets, but nothing he will look at it and swim of! I thought Giant Gourami will eat anything!

my pass GG was a picky eater at first. it will take them time to adjust.
fyi, he hated peas

Because my RTGG was being picky at eating, it was very hungry and didnt want the Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets, today ive notice that 5 of my baby clown loaches have dissapeared!!!!!!!!!! He must have ate them!!!!!!!!!!! What kind of Hikari Pellets does everyone feed there GG on?

What is PCH? Do you mean Hikari algae wafers? Please give me the full name of the product so i can order them immediately!! The CL's were 1-1.5 inch...

PCH is Pork Chop Hanibal the name of the GG I gave to "gtgg"
No not Algae wafers, these are the
Hikari,
large size,
KOI Staple,

Feed it a more veg based diet if your having problems.

eg:
Lettuce
Banana
Mango
Blueberries
Strawberries

Try a few and find out what works.

try taking out the CL and starve the GG until he starts eating pellets and veggies.

How big is your GG? I've noticed that when they go through growth spurts they seem to have a high desire for higher protein content so I will give him shrimp, krill or higher protein pellets during these phases (along with vegies too) Having said that, my ten year old GG won't touch shrimp, white bait etc but goes nuts for insects (dubia roaches, crickets) even though its not growing. I'm pretty sure they are opportunistic feeders in the wild and will take anything that falls into the water.

I have used all the Hikari pellet varieties and none have been refused but the sinking algae wafers seem pretty popular.

Ok this RTGG that you call "Tom" as it looks now appears to be a Female but until it reaches 9~10 inches that may change, but I doubt it. But I'm 99% confident it is a female.

The GG that appears to be what is commonly called in this area a Common Giant Gourami appears to be Male. But without several others of simular size to reference and not having ever personally worked with them it's hard for me to make a call that I feel 99% confident with :irked:.

Tom RTGG, the anal fin suggest it to be female. but the lower lip is kind of wide to suggest so. since you had female RTGG's before, i will take your word on this.

Porkchop, the head is too pointy to be a common GG? i going to do some research on this.

thanks for the comments.
