GIANT gouramis

the best way is to try and start them all together as soon as possible...
that being said, PCH, gtgg's female offed two of her siblings at 1-1.5"
Day 5. I promise I'll stop with the updates(will slow them down once things settle down).

She's fully settled now, instead of hiding and only coming out for food she's started to make the tank her own. She's also hand feeding with confidence and 'moving' the moonlights out of the way;)

More tank decor has been added so they have some where more interesting to live.

It's so silly, I can see the character coming out already and she's so like George, he used to eat cubes of food, hold them for a second then blast the waste out of his gills and she does the same thing, takes a bit to get the cube down to a swallow-able size but acts the same. She's also started to grow, most LFSs that stock them don't feed them much for obvious reasons. As we've got a fully cycled tank used to handling a lot more than the current stocking we can just power feed her knowing the filters will handle it.

George was just under 17'' when he died and we did under feed him a touch especially the last year when it was looking like the house extension wouldn't happen for a while. As it's back on the cards we are going to keep power feeding her until she hits the fasting period when she will grow a lot more.

First day in lights just on:

New tank decor(more to come):

Taken today, best shot I've got of her yet, they are so quick at this age but this shot even with a stupidly quick shutter speed, but you can make out her pattern:

when they do stop eating, they REALLY stop eating...I remember PCH and the first time she went on a fast I got really nervous...She absolutely quit, but she started to grow faster!
It's like eat-grow-eat-grow-eat-grow grow grow...

Giant gourami are one of the fastest growing FW species. They can reach a length of 12" per year in the first 2-3 years of their life(after that they tend to grow in spurts) with proper tank requirements/conditions/food. Its no wonder they are farmed and are an important food source(aquaculture) in Asian countries. The labrinth organ also helps to transport breeding stock to different ponds relatively easy..oh,,,,,im rambling...sorry...disregard post...:screwy:

Why is it a horrid thought? They taste great much better than Bass or Trout, and especially if you fed them basil for a few day before cooking them, hmmmmmmmmmmmm deep fried GG yummy.
