I will try and get one tomorrow. He or she is now about 7 inches.

Well unless the headshot reveals a much fatter head and lower jaw than I make out from the present posted photo, I would say it's a female. Males have a broader rounder jaw, kinda fat headed, plus there much thicker body wise. While females have much narrower faces that appear to be pinched or pointier from top to bottom than males. So far I have found this to hold true of all GG regardless on color phase. But if all this changes say in the next several inches say around 8~10 is when the males really take shape they get a much better formed head bump, where females will start to fade and smooth out.

Color has very little to do with the sexes I have one female that at times looks as good or better than both males. If I had a pond I would attempt to breed them.

Just an update: my GG is now around 14" long and very "tall" too. He has some reddish areas in his otherwise pink body, like some kind of allergy. Are these cause for concern? He's a real hog, and eats everything!

Santoury, my LFS is selling a 3.5" giant gourami that's white in color for $6. Is this a normal price, and will it survive if it's this small yet? Is white a normal color for juvy gg's? Tnx.

A photo or too would help.

Thank you so much for the info. I haven't had time to take picts, but as soon as I do, I will post more up. I think you are right, cuz as it gets bigger, it appears to be a female. Just needed a second opinion. Thanks again!!
