my friend has a male gt and a female blue acara. he gets fry from them all the time. he sells them to a lfs as blue acara. so it is possible however in your case not to sure though i love to see how the fry turn out.
Thats not cool at all. Your "friend" should inform people as to what they are actually buying.

What makes it impossible for a GT, or other SA other than Festae, to hybridize?

Genetically they are too different. They came from a common ancestor, but as they evolved they became too indifferent. I am oversimplifying it but thats the gist of it.

lol sorry i wasnt clear enough. he tell them. what i should have said is that he sells them as blue acara hybirds.

Blue Acara and GT are in the same genus, that is why they are able to breed.

You all are too quick to judge. Just hope for fry but dont be too doubtful, GTs can hybridize with some cichlids, though the only hybrid ive seen was with a convict

Lol, just like your "Convict Severum" hybrid right? Please stay out of this conversation if you are just gonna continue to make ridiculous claims.

We are not judging, it is fact. The only South American cichlid that can hybridize with a Central America cichlid is the Festae. You ask anyone who knows about American cichlids and they will tell you no South American can cross with a Central American (again aside from Festae)

On top of that, lots of people say that Syns are hard to pair. So even if you somehow magically got them to pair you wouldn't get fry from them, so its all wasted time.

Green Terrors and Blue Acaras are in the same Genus so that can hybridize with each but not other cichlid outside its Genus because they are too far apart genetically.

You've literally wasted more time typing about how absolutely positive you are that they can't cross than I "wasted" separating these 2 and experimenting with breeding them so I wouldn't say it's a waste of time at all. No point in being negative dude...

He should tell them are are hybrids, being a responsible breeder is very important.

GT and the Acara can has offspring.

UPDATE : Sorry did not see you clarify he tells them they are Hybrid.
