Not a Boomslang. That's what I expected most would guess. Heck, it's what I would have guessed before stumbling across that picture while researching another species last winter.

It is not Leptophis or Hapsidophrys.

I'm happy to provide more hints if anybody wants anything in particular.

I'm tapped out then. It must be a fairly new species.

It is described in some old herpetology books, albeit under a different genus. I had never heard of it either.

Not sure what to do here. Should I post the answer?

I'll just post the answer. Species name is Rhamnophis aethopissa. The other species I posted is Rhamnophis batesii.

You can find information on the former species by searching both Thrasops aethiopissa and Rhamphiophis aethiopissa.

If somebody else wants to go they can. If I come back later tonight and nobody has taken a turn I'll post another.

Dude what the heck are you talking about? I do a search in google for Rhamnophis aethopissa and it comes up with a bunch of lillies and when I do a more in depth search I still come up eventually with snakes but no where near the snake your talking about here.

Yes when I search Rhamnophis batesii I get your second snake photos but not your first choice. I still believe the first photo posted too be a Boom Slang. Unless you can show where you got this photo and name combo.

When I Google search Rhamphiophis aethiopissa the second site listed has the first picture I posted. Actually it's the third now behind this thread. You can find it here:

http://www.african-reptiles.com/uganda/ramphiophis aethiopissa.jpg

And here are the search results:

http://www.google.com/search?source...ox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7TSNA_enUS373US373

When I search Rhamnophis aethiopissa in google images the second picture (note: not the second species) I posted is the very first one shown.

http://www.google.com/images?q=rham...&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1362&bih=562

If you're getting lillies or whatever I suspect Google is automatically changing the search terms on the assumption of misspelling.
