Guess what kind of Reptile

warmer. It is not protobothrops but there is some debate about it.

Well that hint worked but I had to cheat to figure it out so I won't take credit. Have family coming in today and knew I'd be out of the loop for a few days and didn't want to wait to find out what it was.

That's really cool and you're right, there is some debate about the taxonomy.

using google is not cheating if you get close enough to find it on google....assuming that is what you are refering too. Go ahead, doesnt look like anyone else is gonna give it a shot.

Okay, I thought looking up species on Google would go against the spirit of this thread.

Triceratolepidophis sieversorum

Funny thing is I had actually heard the story about how this species was discovered -- in a bottle of rice wine in Vietnam. But I never put two and two together until I started researching some of the proposed revisions to Protobothrops this morning.

I guess it's my turn upon confirmation from you. Does MFK forum software accept stand tags?

Can you attach images from your hard drive?

Again, that was an awesome choice and I got to "see" a new species.

yep that is it, there should be a post in the FAQ page about how to post pictures.

Not the species I wanted to post but was short on time and already had this on my hard drive.

Do you have a pic of it not eating/??????

I found another picture but the species name is right on it. I'll crop it later on and post it.

It's not eating in the above picture. That is defensive throat puffing.

I wiped the species name out with Paint.

For a hint, the two pictures show the adult coloration. It is not the juvenile coloration of a similar and likely closely related species. This species has shown up on dealer's lists from the countries of origin under three different genera. The specific epithet has always been the same as far as I know.

I don't know of any in captivity in the US but believe there are some over in Europe.

there are quite a few in captivity in the US. I came close to buying one not long ago.

I'll be very interested in hearing more about this once the correct answer is posted.
