once they start, there's no stopping them!

need to move my rotkeil fry into a 55g too...

Apparently the barring pattern changes as rotkeil grows too. Fry have 9 bars, but the 7th disappear quickly. The 8th bar remains full whereas all others become either partial (3, 4, 5, 6) or disappear (1, 2, 9).

They look great good job. I finding raising fry to be the hard part when it comes to breeding. Do you have photos of the parents?
The parents originally came to me from peathenster so I'm sure he's shown them in one of his severum threads. I've got a picture of the dad from a couple weeks after his arrival here:

The adults are on the small side, but I finally have them eating pellets and I hope they put on size over the coming months.

Here are a couple bad pictures of the fry from tonight. They're eating beefheart. I just moved them into this tank on Friday. Yes, it's covered in algae, but the water is clean. They get nearly 100% water changes every day. :)

Only a few more weeks until they're ready.. which is a good thing, because batch #2 started eating baby brine today and there are about 80 - 100 of them. :nilly:

What are you going to do with that many fry?
I'm not entirely sure. This next batch is the last one I'm probably going to raise. I moved the parents into the 210 with my other sevs. I've had several people PM me about fry, so I think I can get rid of these pretty easily.

It's difficult to get good pictures of the male with my camera. The spots are actually black and dark maroon, but they wash out and look red in the pictures. It's also hard to describe the greenish-yellow sheen on the gills and breast of the fish. It's just something you have to see in person. They look like they're glowing when they're in breeding colors.

I haven't seen any black spots on the fry yet. I'm not sure when they'll develop. I would assume I should see them at about 2 - 3". That's when my F1 notatus from Rapps started to show them.
