Hma filters for water

What filter media do you use in your hma filter 1st 5 micron sediment 2nd crb2-10 3rd high quality carbon then 4&5 di resin. I just wondered if im doing enough to get the best water I can without doing ro because I just think its to wasteful. My hma runs at 36 gal a day my total tank with sump about 420 uk gals something like that.

i only use a 3 chamber 10" system

1st sedement
2nd coccnut carbon block
3rd carbon block

what is the di resin and whats it for

also how offten do you change the cartiges as the flow seams fairly slow

I also only a 3 chamber unit:
1 micron prefilter
Chlorplus 10
CRB2-10

Mine drips 3 gallons per hour for my 600. Cartridges to need replacement every 3 months or so as the flow decreases.

I run the same hma as T1 but not on a drip and agree your change rate is low. i do roughly 100 gallon water changes every other day so 300 a week for 350 total volume. swedeboy is doing 540 a week for 600 so your change is quite small considering total volume. I am lucky to have 0 nitrate tap but have to deal with low gh and kh. what nitrate does your tap run at? what nitrate does your tank run at?

Just out of interest does anyone know what the di resin does

As its cheap to ad it to my system and if it does anything extra I will ad the extra 2 chambers for £30

And would you need a extra pressure pump to run it like RO

From my understanding resin part is used to remove the heavy metals, Iv only just started using it for my rays, I run my hma slow in to a big water butt which then heat over night before adding to tank, sadly drip system not a option for me

least your water is hma treated.
im just plain old wc and prime twice a week.been so busy this week its 6 days since last water change!!!!

Only just started Ade with the hma up to now exact same as u, normal tap water with prime, its getting the time as you say. Atleast with the hma filter you can run it real slow from the tap and I can let it fill the water butt up over a few hours. Its alot easier if running on a drip system straight into your tank I reckon.

im not not a water meter. just pay a flat rate. is hma expensive on drip systems ..on meter......

Im on a meter, but the way I use my hma its no different in the cost of the water weather I use hma or tap straight to tank, but I have alway wondered how much people's water bills went up when using drip systems 24/7
