Walleye...not much on fighting, but picky and often challenging to catch...and the best eating fish in the world, IMHO.

Very closely related to Perch.

I believe you regarding the good eating. Perch are also a beautiful fish to eat, though it's a few decades ago now since my favourite fish passed my lips.

Your perch are Perca fluviatilis; ours over here are Perca flavescens, and they look virtually identical in photos, although I think ours average a bit smaller. I agree, they are terrific eating, just as tasty as Walleye, but Walleye are bigger and nicer and easier to handle, clean and cook. They practically fillet themselves! :)

I love eating fish, but don't really keep many for the table; almost never even bring a stringer...but Walleye and Perch are a different story. :)

Our average temperature for this time of year is 33C and historically this is normally the hottest week of the year.
I remember in my youth returning to school in Feb and sweating through 40C days in stinking, crowded non air conditioned classrooms and trying to sleep through sweltering nights.
Not sure what’s going on but we have been hit with an “arctic blast” and the max temp today will be 13C and rainy. I don’t like the really hot days but this
Is going too far. Last Saturday was 37C as a comparison to show how unusual this temperature swing is.

Interesting. This morning on TV there were a number of Talking Heads discussing an impending blast of dangerously cold temperatures in parts of the US...they were mentioning possible windchill values of -100F!

I normally hear a news story about supposedly horrifying cold weather and just sort of smirk and nod...Yeah, sure, dangerous, right...but that comment really rocked me back on my heels.

Oddly enough, we have just had a fairly cold week, daytime temps in the -25 to -30C range with much colder windchills...but we are now on the verge of an entire week of warm temps, with several days forecast to be all the way up to 0C; for us to even approach a point where any ice thaws, during February, is virtually unheard-of.
