Another gorgeous day here. In the high 80s or mid 90s outside. Inside, it is 78 downstairs and 80 upstairs. Will have to lower the sun shades soon to keep the south facing rooms cooler. Last year we did different things to have cooler rooms when it is hot....sun shades....rooms were still hot.....heat pumps in the "hot" rooms (the rooms facing the river). Even with the AC on, the wall adjacent to the attic space above the old part of the house was very hot. Finally had foam insulation sprayed on the ceiling of the attic spaces. That finally gave us a reasonably cool house on hot days.

Yesterday, my husband did some bush wacking and fell a couple of small trees. Things were really overgrown. We now can see more of the river and beach below our house. View from the "sun" room today

Beautiful views...but too hot for me. No matter how cold it gets here, I can dress properly and still go outside to pursue my outdoor interests.

But...95F in April? Just can't take off enough clothes to make that livable for me. :)

Too hot for me too. .....now at the lake, I prefer 105 - 115 degrees.

I think we have the hottest house in our community. Where the house is located, the south facing side of the house has the sun beating down on it while the other part of the house is cool. We still haven't moved into the new master bedroom above the fish room. Last summer I realized that we would not be able sleep up there on hot days/nights. After incurring considerable expenses, we have a room that can be cool in summer and warm in winter. Two of the walls are adjacent to attic spaces above the old part of the house. The insulation took care of the unbearable heat problem up there.

Plenty of rain lately,I haven't had to water the front yard and the grass is really enjoying the soaking.

Okay, we had a fairly late, fairly cool spring. I almost lost a bunch of fish that I put outside a couple weeks ago when yet another cold snap hit...with no warning from Environment Canada...and produced nighttime temps of 0C...32F...several nights in a row. Daytime temps were in the 8 - 10C range. I ended up bringing a bunch of fish inside and only took them back out today.

But now, we are under an official Heat Warning that covers the entire southern half of my province and has lasted for three days already. It's usually quite breezy and therefore bearable; on those relatively rare days that there is little or no wind movement, it is hot and sticky and very difficult to do much outdoors. Outdoor work is best done in early morning, late evening, or not at all.

The temperature that is causing all this consternation and grief? It's expected to hit 32C...that's just a hair under 90F! The dog doesn't want to run and play...I'm drenched in sweat after dragging a hose around to water the garden and other plantings...there's noticeable evaporation dropping the water level in my pond and stock tanks. And the whole time, I am painfully aware that this is nothing compared to the sorts of temperatures that many of you in the southern U.S. and many other places experience on a regular basis.

So, while I find myself rolling my eyes and snorting with derision when I hear many of you caterwauling about the "brutal" winters, as you face frigid temperatures of 0C and even see the odd snowflake...I am currently getting my comeuppance...and I am not enjoying it...:)
