Okay, we had a fairly late, fairly cool spring. I almost lost a bunch of fish that I put outside a couple weeks ago when yet another cold snap hit...with no warning from Environment Canada...and produced nighttime temps of 0C...32F...several nights in a row. Daytime temps were in the 8 - 10C range. I ended up bringing a bunch of fish inside and only took them back out today.
But now, we are under an official Heat Warning that covers the entire southern half of my province and has lasted for three days already. It's usually quite breezy and therefore bearable; on those relatively rare days that there is little or no wind movement, it is hot and sticky and very difficult to do much outdoors. Outdoor work is best done in early morning, late evening, or not at all.
The temperature that is causing all this consternation and grief? It's expected to hit 32C...that's just a hair under 90F! The dog doesn't want to run and play...I'm drenched in sweat after dragging a hose around to water the garden and other plantings...there's noticeable evaporation dropping the water level in my pond and stock tanks. And the whole time, I am painfully aware that this is
nothing compared to the sorts of temperatures that many of you in the southern U.S. and many other places experience on a regular basis.
So, while I find myself rolling my eyes and snorting with derision when I hear many of you caterwauling about the "brutal" winters, as you face frigid temperatures of 0C and even see the odd snowflake...I am currently getting my comeuppance...and I am not enjoying it...
