Atmospheric river system heading our way. Tuesday night will be particularly nasty with a high wind watch. In town, besides the possible 2-3" of rain, the wind predicted to be 29 - 34 mpg with gusts up to 65 mpg (worse than where I live 9 miles inland) Downed trees and power outages usually accompany the heavy wind, and it will be particularly hazardous to drive on the main road out of here with the possibility of a massive redwood tree/trees falling down with the water logged ground and strong winds those trees can fall even without the winds help.

Woke up this morning to the first hard frost of this late autumn period. And about 2 hours ago the first snow started falling. Brrrr, winters upon us

Woohoo! Special Weather Alert for my area. Up to 20cm of snow possible, daytime highs finally below freezing, stay off roads, be afraid, yadda yadda yadda...

You would think we had never seen a snowfall before. The only thing unusual about this is that it is happening about a month too late! Starts with heavy rain tomorrow and segues into snow later in the day. Gotta gas up the snowblower and prepare.

I know it's my civic duty to be frightened, but I just can't muster up a good patriotic panic...too excited thinking about how wonderful hunting will be on Thursday.

Weather forecast is for 2-3" of rain tonight with damaging winds with gusts up to 70 mph. Downed trees and power outages were inevitable. Power has gone out. There are so many outages that the wait time is 30 minutes to an hr just to report an outage. Spectrum internet went down, and I received a text that they hope to have it restored by 11:30 pm. Nice to have a generator. We usually have no cell phone reception here, and have a network extender off the computer system. Grateful to have a little 4G reception right now to post this. Downloaded the power company app..they hope to restore power to our area tomorrow

I don't even know why I bother looking at these forecasts anymore.

Yes, we had a bunch of rain. No floods, no wind, no damage, no death/destruction. The ground is wet; that's it. No overflowing on the pond, either.

As I type this, we are right in the middle of the period that was supposed to be heavy snow and overcast. I didn't even go hunting this morning, took a day off to let the storm have its way with us and pave the way for perfect conditions starting tomorrow.

Welllll...the sky is clear and blue, with a few light fluffy clouds. The wind is virtually non-existent. Temps are several degrees above freezing. Bluebird weather. There is no snow falling. There is no snow on the ground. There. Is. No. Snow.

I just checked the Canadian gummint weather forecast in case they had come up with a Special Weather Advisory, or a Special Weather Alert...or maybe a Special Weather Apology...but, nope, they are sticking with a Special Weather Statement and trying to stoke the fires of fear in our area. It still might snow! There still might be panic and mayhem to come! Remain afraid until...yeah, here we go...this coming weekend, when another system will come through!

I guess they have put so much effort into the first scare-mongering effort that they figure it will be easier and more efficient to just maintain the high pitch of terror right through until the weekend, rather than letting it die down and the require them to re-build it only a couple days later. They're nothing if not efficient.

But, for now...it's the end of November, and everything is brown and grey outside, rather than white. Hmmm...I wonder if they have considered trying to make that scary somehow?

I don't even know why I bother looking at these forecasts anymore.

I have also been hoodwinked on many occasions by the local weather reports on my phone, which I used to check regularly if I had a bike ride planned.

The reports on your phone give hour by hour details. They are meant to be as live as possible, but I've found them to be more "reactive" than "proactive".

There have been several times where, for instance, it has said on my phone that it is "cloudy, but fine". But looking outside it might be raining. Within a short time the report on my phone will change from "cloudy, but fine" to "rain"!!!

They are rubbish at forecasting weather accurately, but great at telling you what the weather is after it as already happened!!

That type of up to date weather report isn't helpful at all.

Turns out that the forecast for our area was worse case scenario and thankfully, didn't come close to happening. Things (like fierce winds) were worse to the north of us. While there were reports of downed trees and outages, our power and internet were restored before I went to bed. There is still a flood watch in effect until Friday, and rain is predicted for the next week.

The river below us did rise and will rise higher with more rain. I took "before" pictures yesterday in anticipation of the river rising. The river rose last night and now covers the gravel "beach". It was raining when I took pictures this morning.
