Threw the Christmas tree out the back last night with a view to chopping it up this morning. There was no snow in sight. Opened the curtains this morning to this!!

Christmas tree ain't getting chopped up today!

Dang....I really wish I could show a pic of our yard with a couple feet of snow in it to mock your distress, but...this year I can't. We've had a bit of snow, but we have also experienced three separate warmer spells, during which most of the snow on the ground melted away. Even a single thaw during winter is unusual...we usually remain well below freezing for at least three months...but three is unheard-of. Okay, right now we are in our usual deep-freeze; actual temperature on the deck this morning was -29C, with an unknown but very significant wind-chill as well. But they're now calling for a gradual warming trend over the next several days and into next week...

Frankly, this freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw nonsense is very irritating. It results in a great deal of nice high-traction snow melting and then reforming into dangerously slick ice in lots of area where I don't want it. I actually had to re-plow the little path I keep clear around the house and down to the garage and the road. Duke and I were slipping and sliding totally out of control on the old one, so I had to make a new one parallel to it by shovelling snow onto the old one to cover it. My driveway and the entire road from my property to the highway is impossibly slick with ice; we drive in 4WD to the highway at a snail's pace when we need to venture out. Our morning walks call for snowshoes and staying completely off roadways and established trails. I love snowshoeing but I'm way past the point where I would do several miles of it for fun, and Duke is over 9 years of age and he's beginning to tire after wading through snow almost up to his chest in places. By the time we turn around to head home he is usually happy to follow in my wake to take advantage of the pre-packed trail I create.

But...I'd take this all day every day in place of 28C mornings and 33C daytime temps. :)

Yesterday it was 38 C here max temp and pretty similar the day before.
Today was 18C, crazy variance. I went to the beach with my daughter and her freind yesterday and it was too hot, today i walked the dog along the beach and it felt too cold.
I prefer cold to heat any time for sure.
Ideal for me is is mid 20s during the day with a nice cool breeze and 10 during the night, we get that a few weeks a year during autmn and spring/

I like cooler weather as well, but it was a big adjustment growing up in Australia and then moving to the US Midwest in my 40’s.
We had a big snow storm last night. I had to work as I’m an RN in a cardiac ICU. Dicey drive to & from w 10-12” snow dumped in less than 24hrs. My usual 25 min drive took almost an hour each way. It looks spectacular but in practicality creates a lot of pre & post work. Lol
For the next week it’s gonna be -5c highs to -15c lows air temp without wind chill 🥶
Here’s a few pics. Our dog belly deep, our yard, and a pic out the window from the hospital yesterday evening. It was hilarious watching Hope try to poop cause she couldn’t assume her usual squat position 😂
