how cold of temps can oscars handle??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yea, i asked a simple question.......what temps can they stand. pretty simple eh?? i dont recall asking about a heater there. but keep going on jethro if it makes you feel better. you know all.

o and also it has been explaned that the fish dont like it below the 71ish and that mid 70's is quite okay. i woke up this morning and it was 74 and is now 75-76. its awesome what happens when i remember to turn the heat on in the house.

SOOOO if its staying in a safe temp range and not fluctuating but a few degrees then why the NEED for the heater????

if i dont HAVE to run the heater, i DONT want to. THATS the reason i dont wanna full with it. but keep thinking you know all. its quite intertaining. you remind me of the dude at pet smart, the one that wont shut up and thinks they have it all figured out. have fun with that.

I can tell from your grasp of the English Language (or lack thereof rather), spelling capabilities and juvenile temper tantrums that you just dont get it.

I understand now...

and i can tell you cant bring anything more than your oohhh i did this for 25 years yada yada yada and have nothing factual.

from the factual info i have seen, those temps are okay.

Yea Corky, they are, but the constant fluctuation is what might be an issue. I explained that but you just cant grasp it.

Its ok though...Im just glad they let you guys on the computer to do stuff instead of just sitting around playing pick-up-stix, hungry hungry hippo and tiddly winks all day long.

Now now, lets not get out of hand with mud slinging. Stop flaming and qq'ing and lets dicuss this like adults

I am trying to understand your point of view.

You said you already own a heater, what is the reason you dont want to use it? Do you not like the way it looks, are there no extra outlets, dont want to pay the electricity bill?

Do you need a heater, maybe not, your fish will grow slower and be more likely to get a parasite/ich and die.

It is better for your Oscar to use a heater.

Also, using caps lock doesnt make what you are trying to say any more relevant. it is considered rude.

I think surviving and thriving are two very different things. The oscars my survive without a heater, but doubt they'd thrive without a heater. My two cents.
On a slightly related point, the Mrs. keeps a heater running on her fancy goldfish tank to cope with the fluctuations in temperature, and I have to say they seem a damn sight healthier and impressive since its been running.

O MY BAD.

yea i was trying to make it more relivent.....no i was trying to make it clear that is what i was getting at. not all this small talk.

again you guys win.

you know out in the wild it fluctuates a few degrees thru out the day. im sure it will be okay in my tank also.

i like how you played into the childish come backs mr grown up

In the wild?

the "wild" for an oscar is the Amazon Basin. Just because the air temperature fluctuates a few degrees there, doesnt mean the water temperature does.

It's not a matter of survival, it's a matter of comfort.
You can survive in Wisconson
but what a miserable, miserable life it must be

They don't live in 70degree temps.
Don't keep them in these temps just because it won't kill them.
You want us to tell you it won't kill them so you don't feel bad.
It won't kill them. Don't do it.
