How Long Has Your Equipment Lasted?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hace AC 110s the old 500s that are over 15 years old and still going strong/ they are the best mechanical filter out there

my eheim canister (huge) has worked for about 8-9 years now. never once faulty!!

I have 2 Jebo canister filters (1200lph) that have been running for 7 and 8 years. Other than the impeller on one and the spray bars on both failing (I keep the spraybars above water level for airation purposes and they get brittle after a couple years) they have been problem free. I really like the multiple media baskets.
I also have an Atman 800lph canister on my 20 gallon thats been running for 5 years with no problems as well.

Back in the early 80's when I was a 13 y.o boy happened to buy an Aquaclear, I dont remember the model but think it was the old version of the current aquaclear 50.

That little box proved to be a warrior running and running with minimal maintenance and a rough hadling from me, lol, I was surprised how that filter worked out in overcrowded tanks, keeping always water clear and live fish.

After several years I ended up giving it away along to the rest of my equipment and fish.

Now I have two AC's one 70 and one 110 but 70 is barely a year old and 110 is new.

Cheers.

I've got an old Aquaclear 300 hang on filter that's been going for 16 years. Takes a bit of random adjustment to get restarted after a clean, but once going, works well. Has only started doing that this year though. So I would say 15 years without issue. IMO that's a good quality product.

Keep off FX5 mine lasted less than 2 years, I now use large sponge filters which I find to be better than any canister filters. Airstones are placed down the centre of the sponges, better still is to have a tube down the centre with a power head to draw the water through the sponge. Just rinse the sponges with tank water and reuse.

I had an Eheim 2213. Latest 12 months. A 2215 about to hit 18 months and a 2217 is 3 months old.
