I finally bought a speedlight and trigger.

Very very very good, which would you recommend i should get first a speedlight or a macro lense?

speed light for sure! macro lenses are no good if you dont have enough light. sure you can get a super wide aperture like f/1.4 to let in a lot of light, but your depth of field is so shallow it makes the pic look like crap because only a small portion will be in focus, the rest will be blurred.

lots of overhead light, small apeture and fast shutter speed = super sharp pic where everything is in focus :D
 
here's a good pic for visuals, as the cars are good at representing a fish. at a fast and big aperture, only the first car is in focus. but with a small aperture, you get everything in focus. but with a small aperture comes less light, that is where the overhead flash comes in. hope that made sense :)

Thanks all. I am looking forward to seeing the results after some more time. It is always good to have something new to learn.

Jcar, that is a great example you posted. It really shows the difference in the DOF. Something my pics have lacked when shooting without a flash.;)
