I Got My Freshwater Bumble Bee Grouper!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a lot of information to back up my statements, probably more than you want to hear or digest in one setting :)

I'll list some examples of evolutionary changes without "man's" interference, that would disprove the commonly believe concept of osmoregulation/homeostasis!

Oreochromis mossambicus, can live in pure freshwater, and salt water up to 1.035, greater specific gravity than the red sea, where most fish will die. They can breed in both conditions, and I've seen so myself personally! <---that is concrete evidence.

Guapote from Costa Rica, and other central american countries, have been found in Coastal waters, and full marine waters. There was a TFH article on it, you Cichlidae people should read it.

Alligator gars, are found in the Gulf Coast.

I can name and think of hundreds more that are this way.

Are you saying that these fish have mechnical parts in them that switch from drinking water to excreting urea to keep homeostasis? Or they've adapted?

Why, do black people in Africa who are exposed to the sun have darker skin and white people from Europe who see more fog and clouds have lighter skin, even their immediate off springs are born like that? Are these all just random happenings?
Science itself is constantly changing. Evolution does take place, in the aquarium, in the wild, etc. First comes hypothesis, then from repeated testings, supported by data, forms theories, and over time proven, becomes "facts" which are still not concrete. Our minds are very finite, and the ability to comprehend is limited, some more than others.

I dont see why the whole fw/sw convert thing gets so many people worked up. It is done all the time with fresh fish to salt water and salt to fresh. Mollies can be kept in pure salt or pure fresh and thrive. There is evidence of many cichlids going from pure frsh to pure salt. I have worked at many lfs' and have used Sarotherodon mossambicus to cycle salt tanks many times. you can find Vieja maculicauda swimming among reefs eating marine algae. Nandopsis uropthalmus. etc etc etc. Dragon fish, members of the goby family are kept in pure fresh all the time and in general they are salt/brackish creatures. Most Secondary Division Freshwater fish can go into marine water because they originated from marine ancestors. why cant some fish still continue to adapt.

thanks for clearing that up west coast wes.

Wes wes wes........ we debated upon this subject......... all these "facts" you present are true........ indeed facts.......... but my whole point is that you cannot just speed up evolution......... if your F3 theory is correct then all "black" people living in europe will become "White" by the third generation.......... Evolution takes time.......... along with the right enviormental stimuli........ IMO........ some adapt and those that cannot will cease to exist......... certain things are not so easily changed overnight, weeks, months, years, centuries,........... For example the BB grouper........ it probably spends most of its time laying on the bottom sand???? correct me if im wrong........ but I have noticed SW fish that have been converted spend alot of time and effort trying to stay boyent...... due to the fact their air bladder are not designed for lower salinity........ and vice versa........ We live in a world thats ever changing......... nature created a system of "survival of the fittest" thats the unwritten law of life............ one cannot contest nature and its experiments......... it will only lead to failure..........
